Let’s get right to the point. Interserver.net is a web hosting service that offers the best value to anyone who is about to a) start building his or her own website or b) step up and switch from the “free” (Geocities, Homestead, etc.) web hosts with annoying ads and very limited MB space.
While Interserver.net offers several web-hosting packages, I will concentrate only on the least expensive one—the one I signed up for two months ago.
For $8.95 a month, Interserver.net offers:
100MB of storage space
2GB of bandwidth
15 E-mail accounts
1 FTP account
Free setup
Free domain transfer
…etc.
If you subscribe for a year, they will knock off two monthly payments ($89.50 a year). The customer service is terrific. They respond to e-mails within a day (can be a couple of hours), and usually have a Live staff person on duty, so you can interact and ask urgent questions in real time on their website.
Prior to subscribing to Interserver.net, I did an enormous amount of research. There are hundreds, if not thousands of web hosting companies out there. There is no one on the market at this time who will give you 100MB of storage space for $8 a month with no setup and no domain transfer fees. I challenge you to prove me wrong.
When I came back from Switzerland this summer, I set up a Yahoo/Geocities account, and I posted many pictures for my friends to see. Very soon I ran out of space (15MB) Also, I was annoyed with all the banner ads popping up on every page and extremely long and certainly not memorable URL. So I started looking for other inexpensive options. Obviously I wasn’t looking to spend much. I’m not running a business. It’s a hobby. I registered a domain at Dotster.com ($15), a recommendation from many folks on Epinions, and then just “parked” that domain for a month until I found a suitable web host. It really took me a month to finally go with Interserver.net, which for some reason is not listed on CNET. Once I subscribed, I was up and running in 48 hours.
My website www.gimmelwald.com is about a village in the heart of Swiss Alps, where I spent 3 weeks in the summer of 2000. I can truly call it my home away from home. Check it out if you are curious.
