| outdoorsteve's Full Review: Yakima Strap Thang |
When you think of yakima you usually think of a good quality product. However, this was not the case with this product. My buddy and I, had both of our long boards strapped down with this product. I was kind of leery of how flimsy the rubber strapped felt, but since it was a yakima product I was thinking it would hold. Boy was I wrong. On the way to the beach the boards stayed on, however on the way back from the beach we heard an ominous snap. Looking in the rear view mirror I saw both of our surfboards flying down the road behind us and then being ran over by a bus. After some investigation I came to realize what I was afraid of, one of the black rubber strap that held down the boards, the one I thought was flimsy to begin with, broke. What was worse was that the surfboards were only three weeks old and the strap thang was only a week old. I tried to contact Yakima to see if they could reimburse me for the boards since it was their products fault that caused the demise of our surfboards. The response that I got was that since I was not using the correct rack, a wilderness rack for a Jeep Wrangler, they were not responsible. I tried to explain to them that it was the strap that broke so what did the rack have to do with anything? But they would not listen. Bottom line is, do not just rely on those piece of crap straps, use a ratchet down to make sure the boards are secure. Yakima should have put some foresight in this before selling it to the public. I am not sure if I will ever buy a Yakima product again.
