I used to shop REI both in the retail store and online. I have found that their practices are becoming less and less respectable, especially the practice of putting items on the site at greatly reduced prices. When you order and pay, you then receive notification in a day or two that the item you wanted was "no longer available" and your credit card was being credited. As a token, they offer you a discount, which is never very valuable as it has limitations, and does not qualify for the dividend. This is a form of "bait and switch" and REI does not respond to these complaints. I never minded paying the higher price at REI as I valued the service and reputation of the company. Now, I go will go in and check out the product, try it on, (unfortunately waste an employees time), and then order it from Campmor, Sierra Trading Post, or one of the other reputable on line retailers who almost always offer a better price. REI.... If you as a company are not going to offer honest service and stand behind your advertisements, you will eventually lose the reputation you have built!

I've used REI quite a few times the site that comes close to it for outdoor gear online is www.barrabes.com, when you get the chance check it out.

Clearance items are excluded (so are things purchased at REIoutlet.com) and some sale items are not included. If they end in a certain price you don't get the dividend. REI states this on one of their pages...either the checkout or the item page...I can't remember but I will find out and update.

Just a question ~ I too belong to REI and shop there but if I'm not mistaken the rebate only comes on items that are sold at regular price ~ no sale or clearance items. Am I correct on that?
