Pros: Ingenious, easy to use. Simplifies capturing data for your Palm.
Cons: Takes up 160KB of your Palm's memory.
The Bottom Line: I'd recommend it to anyone that has a Palm O/S PDA. It's so well thought out, and makes all of the Palm apps that much easier to use.

Are there times when you think about pulling out your Palm to make a note in it then hesitate because you just know it's going to take too long to tap your way to a place to put that note in your Palm?
Slap just might turn the trick for you. If you've installed it with the default options, it hooks itself to the NotePad/MemoPad button. (A second press of that button takes you to NotePad, or whatever program was previously hooked to that button.)
Just jot down whatever you need to capture in Slap. Tidy up what you've written (if you need to) when you have a bit more time. Then send all or part of what you've jotted to your Date Book, your PhoneBook, your ToDo List, or your Memo Pad with a single tap on one of the buttons provided on the screen by Slap. You can set up alternate applications on those buttons as long as they can handle the data format for the default application on that button.
Slap will parse what you've written, and will make some pretty intelligent guesses about what to do with information you send to the basic Palm apps. It's also fairly forgiving about the format you use for that data, and will deal accurately with a range of formats. The result is that you don't have to be fussy about what you slap into Slap. For further details in that department, check out the manual at http://handshigh.com/html/slmanual.html.
Slap is one of those programs that does only one thing, but does it very well. It aims to be the starting point for all of your favourite Palm apps, and to simplify the data entry that sometimes gets so fiddly with a Palm PDA. It succeeds admirably. The programmers have done their human engineering homework on this one.
Slap also acts as a launcher for other apps as well. A tap on an on-screen icon brings up a task list from which you can launch any app that you've set up in the launch list. Adding an app to that list is as easy as adding to the category list in any Palm app.
A date picker and a time picker are also as close as a tap on an on-screen icon for those who prefer to enter date or time data that way.
For those who like technical details: Slap takes up about 160KB of your Palm's memory, and needs Palm O/S 3.0 or later. If you're running Palm O/S 3.0 or later, you probably have an 8MB PDA, so Slap's size probably isn't an issue. (Yes, 160KB can make a 2MB Palm a bit tight.)
Slap is shareware. You can download and share a trial version from HandsHigh at http://handshigh.com/html/sldownload.html and try it for a while. When the trial period runs out, Slap will gently but persistently remind you to register your copy. If you like it, US$12.95 sets you up with the paid-up version and shuts off the "nag" feature. (Discounted copies are sometimes offered by other software publishers to their customers.) You can purchase or register the program through PalmGear and Handango if you like to do those things on-line. The traditional methods of ordering and payment are also available.
The documentation provided is good. It's clear and simple, and nicely laid out. The program doesn't really need much in the way of documentation because it pretty much worked the way I thought it should once I figured out what Slap does and how it does it.
I haven't had occasion to ask HandsHigh for support for Slap. But I did have to ask for support for their font support program, FontBucket. And got good support by e-mail. So I'm quite prepared to assume that the same level of support is available for Slap.
