GamblingFeb 26 '01 Write an essay on this topic. The Bottom Line It is a great way to have fun but you must be careful on how you do it The dictionary defines gambling as follows: playing a game for money or other stakes; to bet on an uncertain outcome; risky. But gambling is so much more than this. My friends and I gamble all the time and to us it is a lot of fun and very exciting. We bet realistic amounts of money that we can afford to lose and usually don't take out more money after being cleaned out (losing it all). Emotions are usually very high when we play. This should be expected because most people act differently when it comes to money. However, not everyone sees gambling as just fun in games. Some people believe gambling is immoral because you are taking money from other people. I disagree because it is the person's decision to play the game in the first place. It is also against some people's religion to gamble. I agree that gambling if done too much can lead to an addiction. I do agree that this is not a good thing because not only is that person's life going to be ruined but also the lives of many around him. To my friends and I gambling is synonymous to Poker. We play many different forms of poker such as Texas hold'em, five-card draw, seven-card stud, low card wild and many others. Games can be played with either wild cards or no wild cards. When you gamble you can either play with low or high stakes. You set an initial amount that everyone pays and then you receive blue, red and white chips. We decide on a time when we are finished and then cash in all of our chips. At a casino you get to decide the amount of money you wish to play with. Finally gambling can be broken down to a science. You must realize that when gambling at a casino they have the games stacked against you. Therefore, you actually have a chance when you get together and play with friends. In gambling you should never rely on hunches. Always make the mathematically best decision. It has been proven in the long run that a person going on a guess compared to a person going on the mathematically best decision will lose more money. In gambling you shouldn't bet money you can't afford to lose. No matter how one defines gambling it continues to be a very popular activity among people of all ages. Many people enjoy gambling for fun and others make a living on it. If you lose the ability to walk away from gambling at will, then you shouldn't play at all. |
