Pros:Great service agreement, fantastic prints, free black ink
Cons: Colored ink is expensive, although it lasts a long time.
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this printer. It makes fantastic prints, and the price has dropped dramatically since the newer model has come out.
This is a great printer. I got mine free in 2000 at FreeColorPrinters.com, with the stipulation that I would make at least 2100 prints per month and purchase my ink from Xerox. When I recieved the printer three years ago, it was selling for about $3500. Now it sells for less than $1000. Xerox will service the printer free for the 3 year contract. Xerox is now offering the latest model of this printer for free to businesses. I believe it is model 8200.
The printer uses color blocks instead of ink, which gives the print a glossy finish. Photos look fantastic. The only drawback is that you cannot write with a ballpoint pen on areas that have been printed, although a Sharpie marker works well.
Xerox also has a great support site.
Color blocks cost $87.99 for 2 blocks, or $195.99 for 5 blocks. There are 3 colors of blocks: majenta, cyan, and yellow. Each package includes 1 or 2 free black blocks. Overnight shipping is free on orders over $350.
