In-depth Analysis of a Sock
Feb 26 '01
The Bottom Line Keep your feet happy by wearing socks. Make sure they are comfortable, within your budget, and match.
I find the best way to write an opinion about something is after a close examination of the particular product so I can convey an in-depth analysis. So if you'll allow me to pause for a few seconds while I remove my sock, I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Interesting! It's soft, white, and slightly moist.
Ok enough of my sock humor. Purchasing socks are so easy and in most cases so unimportant that we don't think about the act. As long as the socks fits and feels comfortable then we have happy feet, which in turn creates happy buyers. Most socks are purchased in bulk without ever allowing the consumer to try them on. In these cases, your best course of action is to look closely at the material and determine if they will be comfortable.
There are very few times in our lives when socks become important enough to warrant a more closer examination when just going out and purchasing them. In these cases you need to consider the particulars about what you will be wearing or what you will need them for before making a purchase. What color do you need? Is it going to be cold or hot? You will want a thicker sock for cold weather and of course a thinner sock for hot weather. If you can't try on the sock, put your hand into it and see if you can see your skin showing through. Most people don't like socks so thin that skin shows through.
Don't concern yourself with buying expensive socks unless your really concerned about comfort. No will ever notice your socks unless they are mismatched. Have you ever heard anyone say, "Wow, nice socks!" Socks don't come in leather nor are they made of almost extinct animals. Buy what you can afford and what feels comfortable. Having expensive socks won't make you popular.
The worse thing about being a sock is of course the myth that the dryer eats them somehow. Relax, dryers don't eat socks. They just cause them to stick via static cling to other items that were in the dryer. As you remove items from the dryer be careful to check that all socks are accountable for. There's nothing worse than coming to the realization that you somehow ended up with an odd number of socks.
Remember to stock up on socks if your a pretty active person. You may find yourself changing socks several times a day. Plus for added protection you may find yourself putting on layers of socks. This is especially helpful for snowboarding or skiing.
Whatever you do, take care of your feet. They deserve being pampered with comfortable, clean socks on a daily basis. They take little room in the washing machine so change them often. Whatever you do don't disgrace them by wearing them with sandal’s or attempting to recreate a scene from the movie "American Pie". Love your socks and they will love you back.
