| Mimi369's Full Review: Sharp UX-A255 Fax Machine |
Last year I purchased a wonderful printer/scanner/copier combo that I absolutely love. This year, I upgraded my Gateway computer to a brand new DELL. As I looked about my little home office, I realized that there was something missing. When my husband asked me to go out to fax something for him, I realized that what we needed to add to my home office is a facsimile machine. Of course, these machines are known simply as fax machines. I went to Staples in Middletown, NY and purchased a SHARP UX-A255 Fax Machine.
This is a very basic, very simple to operate little baby that does exactly what I needed it to do, plus a few additional features.
The SHARP UX-A255 is a plain paper fax that uses standard copy paper. I liked this feature. I did not have to concern myself with purchasing any special items to receive faxes. I generally keep a substantial supply of Georgia-Pacific copy paper on hand at all times.
Although I all ready own a terrific copy machine and printer, the SHARP UX-A255 Fax Machine is also a copy machine and a printer that has some neat features.
The copier function features an automatic feeder and can copy 10 sheets at a time up to 99 pages. There are selections for enlarging or reducing the size of the copy as well as various settings for the resolution of the copy. The default setting for the resolution is FINE.
The printer capabilities are pretty awesome for this small, simple machine. The SHARP UX-A255 allows me to print out various lists showing settings and information that I have entered in the fax machine! I can print a TELEPHONE NUMBER LIST that shows the fax and telephone numbers that have been stored for automatic dialing. I can print out what is known as the SETUP LIST which shows my current selections for the Function key settings, which also shows my name, fax number and the header at the top of each transmitted fax. I can even print out a MESSAGE LIST and a CALLER-ID LIST which prints information regarding up to 30 of my most recent calls! Finally, the TRANSACTION REPORT is printed out automatically after an operation is completed and I can check against the list to verify the status of each fax.
As if all of the above were not a significant reason to consider purchasing the SHARP UX-A255 Fax Machine, would a digital answering machine featuring the remote notify utility tempt you further? That is correct! This high quality fax machine is also an answering machine that features up to twenty-four minutes of recording time! And, of course, this gadget is also a fully functioning telephone with 30 speed dials. The caller's name and telephone number would be displayed if you have Caller-ID service on your line.

Originally, I walked into Staples and asked the sales representative for a basic fax machine that was not terribly expensive. That was all I needed. What I ultimately found in my purchase of the SHARP UX-A255 Fax Machine is so much more for the price that I paid for it.
The size, 13"x9"x13" is small enough to fit neatly on my desk. The directions for putting it all together were clear and precise. Once assembled, programing the various features was quite easy. The one exception to this is the language used to describe and explain the OPEN LCR technology. I admit to having read this text three times before I realized exactly what the SHARP UX-A255 Fax Machine was offering the consumer.
Basically, OPEN LCR technology helps the consumer to save money on long distance and international phone calls from both fax and voice. It is a free service which automatically routes each call for the best available rate. This service requires that a simple registration process be completed and rates downloaded to the fax machine.
Although, this is an exceptional feature, I did not take advantage of it due to the fact that I all ready have a super unlimited long distance, unlimited regional and discounted international rates package on my telephone line.
My experience with this machine has been good. I have had no paper jams, no missed telephone calls (unless I forget to change the indicator from fax or telephone to TAD...telephone answering device. I have sent and received faxes and I am pleased with the quality of the transmissions. I have yet to have a fax recipient call me back requesting that I re-send the fax due to poor resolution.
Bottom Line
I recommend checking this little hot commodity out. I caught a terrific sale price of just $99.99, with a $20 rebate, thus making my purchase even sweeter.
