Just to chime in, the A310 is now discontinued, but a lot of customers out there are using it and very satisfied with it. The A530 has always been more popular, but more expensive as well. In response to the earlier question, the 4400 is a much better model than the T730. The "T" series from Motorola has generated a fair amount of complaints for me personally. Several VZW employees that used both the 4400 and the T720 indicated that the 4400 was a significantly better phone overall. Hope this helps.

Question for Suzer, if she's still out there. You got your A310 about the same time I did - are you pleased with it? I'm not.

Problem with ear piece (Reply to this comment)

I was wondering if it is common when using the headphone that the person you are talking to has a hard time hearing you. It sounds muffeled. When I don't use the head set it is clear. Is this normail. Thanks

Re: Re: how to set external color display (Reply to this comment)
by skrishnan79
If you are interested in changing the color for the external color display you can do the following....

1) go to "menu"
2) go to "settings" (option 9)
3) go to "display" (option 2)
4) go to "sub lcd color" (option 9)

from here you can change the color for incoming calls, missed calls, new sms alerts, reminders, and standby (color for screen when charging, and when you hit the side keys with phone closed). Hope this is helpful!

How about the Motorola T730? (Reply to this comment)
by johnnydswim
I am having a tough time deciding between the VX4400 and the Motorola T730. I can get the T730 for $30 less after rebate. I like the ability to synchronize the T730 with MS Outlook, but have not found many reviews. The VX4400 seems to have a nicer GUI.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I just got my first cell phone grudgendly... I got a LG-TM510 phone for free and like it! However, I don't like the low volume, even though the volume is adjusted all the way up, it's kinda hard to hear.

Thus, I am thinking about the upgrade to the LGVX4400! Is the volume level better on this model? All the other gizmo's sound fun too! However, my primary concern is increased sound in an upgraded.

Question about LG phones (Reply to this comment)
by dnaseri
Hey, I read your review, and having found it very informative and thorough, I was wondering what your opinion of this phone might be in comparison with the LG VX6000 which is now available. Personally, I'm not at all interested in the camera feature; sure, it would be fun, but I'm just looking for a powerful, reliable phone. I'm switching over from Sprint (eek - what a nightmare that was), so I just want to have things go right for once. On a couple of websites the vx6000 seemed to have better reviews than the 4400... what do you think? Pros/cons?

I would also like to know how to set different colors for different callers (groups). I have read that this can be done but have not been able to figure it out.

Thanks

Corporate Accounts Rep ? (Reply to this comment)
by rolandrick
You should be a writer. I spent (wasted) 3 hours on the net researching the Verizon offered flips (Samsung, LG & Motorola) and couldn't make decision. Then I read your note and pianomans and was able to come to a decision in 3 minutes. Had the LG for a day now and love it so far.

how to set external color display? (Reply to this comment)
by seadragon
I recently bought this phone, in part because of your very informative review.

Because you seem to know a lot about this phone (and because I find the so-called manual to be fairly unhelpful), I thought you might be able to answer a question.

You wrote that "You can assign various colors to flash on the external caller id display when a particular person is trying to reach you along with a variety of other possibities. For example, you can have all "restricted" calls flash red on the display."

I was wondering what you mean by this? Can I set a different color for different callers? Or at least different colors for different groups of callers? Or only different colors for calls versus text messages?

I cannot find a setting for different colors for individual callers. Is there such a setting?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: Do you recommend a headset for use with this phone? (Reply to this comment)
by jonwes
I haven't experienced any problems while using a headset with the 4400. I would recommend the Plantronics line, given their noise cancelling microphones. You may want to check out my review on the Plantronics M175, which is the headset I personally use.

Do you recommend a headset for use with this phone? (Reply to this comment)

I noticed that another reviewer complained about audio quality when using a headset. Have you had the same problem? Is there a headset that you recommend? Thanks.

LGVX4400 (Reply to this comment)
by kweb82
Thanks jonwes. I just signed up with Verizon today, and purchased two 4400s. With the rebate, each cost me $59.00. I appreciate the time and considerations that went into your review and your expertise. You can't please everyone all the time, but this phone seems to try pretty hard. I look forward to to becoming acquainted with it.

After reading yours and the other reviews of the LG VX4400 I turned away from the Moto 720 and purchased the LG. I've had it for a few days now and love it. Thanx for your info in your review as it was VERY helpfull.

The A310 is a great handset as well. I've received very positive feedback about it thusfar, so it should prove to be a good choice for the next year or two.

Wow (Reply to this comment)

Beautifully written review, and it sounds like a great phone, though I couldn't find a price on it. Anyway, I just bought a Samsung A310, so I am stuck for a couple years now (or one year anyway). It seems okay and you can assign banner colors for different groups of people also, and many of the perks you listed.
