for sharing your memories....I just got tears in my eyes thinking about my wonderful grandmother and the wonderful meals that she would put on the table!! I think I'll try my hand at a review on this subject. Great work.

For a Texas twist on those grits, try jalapeņo cheese grits. Yeee ha!
Great review, now I'm craving soul food.

Great Review (Reply to this comment)
by Ladysmom
I was born and raised in the south and there is nothing finer than southern cooking. I now live in Louisiana where their traditional food is just a little different, but that's ok, it's great. Nothing like a good shrimp and crab finger gumbo on a cold night. Mustard and turnip greens with boiled potatoes and cornbread is enough to make anyone happy. Southern cooking is on simple principle. Cook what you have. It doesn't have to be fancy, just good. Think I will make sausage gravy and biscuits for Sunday.

Grits is made from corn. Finely ground in a mill to look almost like cornmeal. Look in your store under Quaker and see if you can find some. Once you eat them with butter or eggs you will love them.

Sunday Mornings (Reply to this comment)

I still have my "84" year old Granny, with her wood cookstove, hurrying around her kitchen, preparing biscuits and gravy, sausage, ham or bacon, eggs, strawberry jam and sometimes, applesause or molasses for biscuits - Smiles and I ENJOYED your review! Gina

I am in the Dark (Reply to this comment)

Since I am from Hawaii, I am not very familiar with Southern Cuisine. What are Grits? This is no joke!
In Hawaii we are very used to Pig's Feet Soup. Also, we eat more pork than beef.
And, we also eat a lot of white rice! LOL I have to have rice with dinner and sometimes with lunch too depending upon what's for lunch.
