A friend and I stayed at "The Jurys Inn Hotel" in Edinburgh, Scotland, for 2 nights in February 2003, booking with lastminute.com.
For such a cheap rate ($60 per night) and being unable to find much information or photos on search engines, we wasn't expecting anything great, just a basic hotel.
The hotel was on a fairly quiet street, the reception area was plush and inviting, with many sofas/tables and helpful staff. Checking in was a breeze and extremely quick (as was checking out).
The hotel had it's own pub, called "The Inn Pub" which was very modern, large, clean and cosey, the perfect place to wind down in the evening. It also had an extended license up to 1am. A good touch for those not wanting to be out late in an unknown city. Next to the pub was a large restaurant, which catered for breakfast and dinner, we never ate there, although there was always delicious smells as we walked past.
We were located on the 3rd floor in a double room, which was a lot bigger than expected. Although we booked a double room, we got a very sizeable double bed and a single bed (a room for 3 occupants), making the room bigger and something to dump all our stuff on.
The room featured 2 large windows bringing in plenty of light and air if needed. There was also a table with chairs and plenty of wardrobe space with hangers.
The radiators made a bit of noise in the mornings, but it wasn't too loud or distracting.
The bathroom was a good size and I couldn't fault the cleanliness of it (and the room itself). Toiletries were provided such as hand wash and shower gel.
There was a tea/coffee maker in the room, as well as a trouser press, iron, TV, alarm and even numerous guides, maps and books with information on Edinburgh, which came in handy.
We had a nice view overlooking a hill, and we were only a 5 minute walk from the main Princes Street, which is where Edinburgh castle overlooks.
