Wisk tablets not all they're cracked up to be

Written: Feb 17 '01 (Updated Mar 05 '01)
Pros:gets clothes clean, inexpensive
Cons:does not dissolve easily or quickly
The Bottom Line: Wisk tablets do not dissolve and are not quicker and easier than powder or liquid.

We've all seen the recent advertisements for the new Tide tablets. They are supposed to dissolve quickly and easily and be easier to use than measuring out liquid or powder detergent. Well, although I used to use Tide detergent, it has been a long time since I bought it. As I stood there in the store looking at the price of it, I debated on how much of a convenience it would be compared to the extremely high price of it. Then I noticed right next to it on the shelf, Wisk Dual Action Tablets. They proclaimed to do the same thing as the Tide tablets and were much more reasonably priced. I decided to try the Wisk

I have never bought Wisk detergent in any form before, so I wasn't sure what I was getting. I brought the tablets home and tried them that day. My curiosity on the new product actually made me want to do my laundry (maybe I should add that to the pros list!! :-]) They were not what I was expecting at all!

When I thought of quick dissolving tablets, I thought of something such as Alka Seltzer that dissolves almost immediately. These tablets do not dissolve until the washer is almost completely full of water. Even then, in cold water, I have to reach in and break up the tablets with my hands once they soften in order to get them to dissolve. There is no putting your clothes in until after the washing machine is fully filled with water and has started it's agitation. Otherwise, the detergent does not get dissolved and distributed throughout the wash load. So much for quicker and easier!!

I have not tried the Tide tablets yet, as I am finishing the box of Wisk that I purchased. I am not one to waste money. Once the Wisk tablets are gone (it will be a while -- I purchased the biggest box because it was the biggest bargain), I will most likely try the Tide tablets and write a review on them. In the mean time, I will continue to break these tablets up by hand and use them. At least they get the clothes clean. That is more than what I can say about a few other bargain brands I have tried.

*****Update:
The Tide tablets were on sale last week, so I bought a box. I haven't went through the Wisk yet, but thought I would get them while they were cheap. I tried them out of curiosity. I will be adding a review over them shortly.
