Pros:Players Identified, Stats kept, all teams, unique gameplay
Cons:none
The Bottom Line: Maybe the best video game ever!
Tecmo Superbowl is the greatest game ever made for the NES system and one of, if not the greatest game, ever. This game, when it was made around 1991, was revolutionary. It keeps season stats, has the names of nearly all the players and all NFL teams that were around in 1991 are on the game. There is an exhibition man vs. computer mode, a man vs. man mode, and a coach mode. Full Pro Bowl team rosters are on the game and you can play a Pro Bowl in any of the above modes. Here are some more specifics:
Season Stats:
The game keeps passing stats, rushing stats, receiving stats, team offense and defense stats, sacks, kicking, punting, scoring, and returning. A full 16 game schedule can be played with any team and man, computer, and coach modes are all available.
Teams and Players:
You can play with legends such as Joe Montana, Dan Marino, and Bo Jackson, who are all amazing on the game, or test your luck with a young Barry Sanders or Emmitt Smith. The top teams on the game include: San Francisco, New York Giants, Los Angeles Raiders, Washington Redskins, Buffalo Bills, and Houston Oilers.
Gameplay:
Unique and enjoyable. The game has its quirks such as the bouncing fumble, the 75 yard field goal, and the length of the field pass which make it very enjoyable. Year after year you will come back to this game and test out all the different teams to see if you can win the title. But watch out, the regular season is much easier than the playoffs.
The game is easy to learn with a simple, yet varied playbook.
I truly love this game and know you will too.
