Pros: clear highs and mids, excellent, powerful bass, no muddiness, made in the USA
Cons: size is too big for bookshelf, somewhat too small for self-standing, need stands
The Bottom Line: these speakers have surpassed my top-of-line Yamaha amp as the favorite piece of my stereo set-up !

| ybouc's Full Review: JBL 2-Way Bookshelf Speakers (Black) |
I have had my JBL Northridge N28 for about 5 months, and I think I can now say they are the most valuable part of my audio system.
Let me just remind you first that those speakers are not in a home theater installation. No, those are by stereo speakers hooked to my stereo Yamaha ampli-tuner. I use this set-up for listening to music mostly, and since I'm a DJ, this takes a lot of my time! And I'm a club DJ, so over the years, I have come across a lot of speaker abuse.
Those JBL's N28 are simply the best speakers you can get for a home stereo system, period. They have plenty of input power (over 150W !), and have all the qualities to spread out a powerful, yet very tight sound : Titanium driver for the highs, flared bass port for the ground-shaking bass excess (and it does it's job well!), and the 8" PolyPlas shielded which is _extremely_ tight, and serves all frequencies with the same precision, even when it gets busy.
The frequency response is 45hz - 20 khz, which is excellent in both low and high frequencies. The excellent coupling of the 8" driver and the bass port makes sure that the main driver gets all the punchiness and the tightness of the bass, and the bass port gets out all of it's energy, which is why the bass is so clear yet so powerful on these models.
And as far as the finishing is concerned, it's solid all the way. the grille fits well into place, letting you see the JBL logo, and you will love the scent coming out of it's maple interior once you crank it up !!
And they're offered at a ridiculously low price (since it's an end of series), so if you are shopping for this kind of speakers, whatever style of music you like to listen to, don't bother, just pick the JBL's and you'll be amazed!
