The controls are extremely easy to use. It's just a dial from 1 to 5. I keep mine at about 2, I prefer a light toast. Yes, it does toast nicely, haven't had a bad piece yet! It's just too darn big. Thanks for the comment. I'll add the toast details as soon as epinions lets me!

Thank you for the comment. Yes, you can put bagels in it! I've used it to toast regular bread, raisin bread, large pieces of garlic bread, and slices of french bread. I usually just use a lower setting for bigger pieces, that way it doesn't come out too cruncy or burnt.

So ... do you think that I could toast bagels in this toaster pretty easily since the slot is so large? That would be a nice bonus! :)

I loved the way you said you felt like Jack in the Beanstalk - in fact, you have a very nice style of writing.
The only thing I think you may have left out is how it toasts! Are the controls easy to use and is the toast to your satisfaction?
