Information is Key, Not Simplicity

The Bottom Line You may want to write simple reviews, but information is usually key to not only making money on epinions, but educating the consumers of the world.

Unlike my contemporary, filazafer, who thinks it's okay to refuse the reader necessary information for his views on products, I feel that it is necessary, if not given, that you include major product information. You'd be surprised how much your ratings improve.

Let's take filazafer's PS2 review for example. He never bothered to mention that regular Playstation games can be played on the system. In fact, he went the OPPOSITE direction and stated that you couldn't even use PS1 cards on the system. This is as far from the truth as I can stand; PS1 cards work on the PS2, but only for regular Playstation games. He also never dreamed of informing the 'public' of the CD, CD-Rom, and DVD-Rom capabilities, or the problems people have been having. That lack of information could sway opinions, which as he says in his profile is "[t]oo much information. That is what I think most reviewers give. . .I can't stand it when someone writes 10 pages about something. Who has time to read that?" No bleeding wonder he's been criticized! He's not even a real reviewer!

What DID he do then? He basically told you to get the PS2, a controller, a multitap, and specific games. Now let's be real, unless you're a little kid (and chances are there are some on this site), no one wants to be told what to do, say, and get. The more information you have about the product, the more likely that people will take your review seriously.

As filizafer says, "The site is called Epinions, not EFacts." Maybe so, but sometimes product sites don't have the information that people who have used the product do. Maybe he should take into consideration that consumers DO want to know information about the product and would much rather hear it from other consumers than the companies that make them. Many people are now applying this to the way they rate reviews, and if filazafer keeps on his way, I can almost guarantee that "not helpfuls" are gonna litter his works.

You've heard my words on this. You've also probably seen filazafer's reviews. Try comparing them to jschmalzried, one of the better reviewers on here, and you make the call.
