This review is probably going to sound like I am a Sony employee, but I am not. Just a very satisfied customer.
I absolutely love my CDX-C90. Prior to purchasing this unit I had used several other high-dollar CD players and found this unit to have the cleanest sound of any of them... by quite a large margin. Bass is deep and tight... highs are clear and crisp. Overall sound is very smooth and pleasing.
Another great feature of this deck is its display. This features one of the first EL displays available, and it is bright and easy to read, except when sunlight falls directly onto it.
It is generally very easy to use: the menus are organized very logically and are easy to navigate, but this player is useless without the remote. DON'T lose the remote or you won't be able to do a lot of important stuff with this unit, like setting the clock, for example.
The down sides I see to this unit are that (1) it is been discontinued (though Sony doesn't have a suitable replacement yet), and (2) because it is a little older it seems to have some difficulty with some CD-R discs. CD-RW discs don't seem to work at all. And there's no support for MP3 or any other compressed format unless you hook up a changer that supports it.
There are a couple quirks you might want to be aware of... When connecting an MP3-capable changer, the CDX-C90 won't display track titles on tracks 100-109, and track numbers above 100 only show the last two digits. Minor inconveniences, but something to be aware of.
Other than these small quirks, my player has operated flawlessly for well over three years. My experience with all Sony car stereos has been very good.
