Overall Good Minidisc Player/ Recorder
Written: Feb 18 '01
Pros:Great price, Great Sound, Extremely easy to use
Cons:Kind of big, Could have been constructed better.
The Bottom Line: Definitely buy this if you are looking for a cool alternative to CD's and tapes.
One day in June 2000 I decided that I needed to broaden my horizons to beyond CD's. So I went out and bought an RCA Lyra mp3 player. What a mistake! It froze my computer, first of all, and second, if I wanted any more memory I would have to dish out almost as much as I paid for the unit itself. So I returned it the next day and bought this nifty Minidisc player. My friends told me about minidiscs and I borrowed their players and I liked them so I decided to get my own. I bought it mainly because of price which is great for a unit like this. I brought it home and was instantly disappointed by the cord that came with it. It was an RCA cord which is good for recording from somewhere like stereo with 2 channel outputs but all I had was my computer and a discman. So I went to radio shack and bought an analog cable ($3) to use. I was happy and immediately hooked it up to my Cd player and made a perfect copy of a CD. The user's manual was very helpful. The titling process could have been easier, but hey, you have to sacrifice some things for such a great price (another one of these things is a remote). The only problem I encountered happened in about September when some of the little screws that held it together started falling out. I called sharp and they said it would cost $50 to send in and get repaired. No way. So I asked around and heard they could be fixed with...get this... and eyeglasses repair kit. Thankfully, my mother wears glasses and had a kit so I looked in it, found screws of the exact same size, and I fixed it. But that didnt take away from the great sound quality and ease of use. This is the perfect recorder/player for someone just being introduced into the minidisc genre. So all in all, this is a great Recorder and you should buy it. And best of all it won;t make a huge dent in your wallet.
