Our old computer was dying and had to be replaced! I started a search in the stores and on the Internet for a new computer. I searched high and low for the best prices for the computer I was looking for to use in our home. I search for over 3 months and I went to places I had never heard of before and decided against them. I went to familiar places and debated back and forth, on which was the best prices for our needs. And, finally I decided to buy online with a very well known company.
And what was the online store you ask? Well here is a hint for you. Dude, you just bought a Dell! Well, that is what I told hubby. And of course he said to me “I did?” and of course I had to duh him! He’s such a sweetie though, really he was glad that we got a new computer! He enjoys the internet games as much as I do!
The Online Store
www.dell4me.com is one of the best to buy a computer system I think. The site was laid out easily. So easy that my 9 year old son could follow it! (you can also use www.dell.com and be taken to the same place.)
When you first come to the home page of www.dell4me.com you have the option to search for “Consumer” “Business” or “Public”. Each of these links offers a variety of choices ranging Home, Business or Government. Just click on your need underneath the chosen title.
Also, on the home page you will find at the bottom links with pictures of various items that www.dell4me.com sells. For instance: Handhelds, Notebooks, Desktops, Software and others. Just click one of them and off you go to a page full of choices.
Across the very top of the homepage you will find links that will take you to: www.dell4me.com or www.dell4me.com: About Dell, Contact, Search, Order Status, My Cart and a phone number for dell which is 1-800-WWW-Dell.
What I Did
Of course I clicked on the link for Home and Home Office found underneath the Category “Consumer” and was taken to a page full of so many choices! I could select from a variety of Computers that are found in the center of the page and each choice allows you to build your own computer or stay with the basics. You will always find the price for the unit under the picture. You will also find any “free s/h” offers, “rebate offers” “free upgrades” or other offers by Dell. Each unit will have the same or different offers. The free s/h is usually for all current sales. These offers change each week. I caught an off s/h week! We had to pay 99.00 for our s/h, which was not bad compared to other sites. Now I must say here that I didn’t know these offers changed week to week because I had not paid attention. Each time I went to the site there was no free s/h offered. I discovered that these offers changed on Thursday (yesterday). Oh well, I am still happy.
I made an account with or www.dell4me.com, which was very easy and safe to do. Applied for the Dell Preferred and then went shopping. (You can also pay with your credit card if you like, there are several options of payment found under the “payment and financing link” on the left hand side of the homepage.) (Currently the Dell Preferred is offering no payments until September 03 with no deferred interest.)
Now, in the center of the homepage I clicked on the desktop I was interested in and was taken to a page just for that unit. Made all my choices and went to the printer section, which was offered at the end of my computer choices. However, if you are interested in just a printer you can do a search on the homepage for a specific brand or just type in printer and you will be taken to a page full of choices for printers. You can also shop for digital cameras and many other things.
I chose the Dimensions 2350 Desktop, which I will write about later (of course I am using it now.) I went through all the options available to me at that time. I also went back and bought a printer, Epson Stylus CX5200 (review coming later.) All the choices were easy to access, easily explained and I always had the option to get help should I need it. However, you should not need the help because it’s all self explanatory and very easy to navigate around.
Each page loaded very quick and of course quicker now with the new computer! The pages are full of color and information. The prices are also right for the budget compared to most other places. At least I found them to be. Now, Wal-Mart had a great selection, but not what I wanted. If you can believe that! www.dell4me.com had just what I wanted and I am so glad that I went to them.
Across the top of any page you will always find helpful links like: Computers, Software and Peripherals, Service and Support, Learning Center, Main, Desktops, Notebooks, Handhelds, Hot Deals, Help and of course the ones I mention above. And once again, each link will take you to a different page or a pop up for needed information.
Other Stuff
After placing my order I was able to check the status anytime. I was able to find out how the unit was put together and I was able to track the order through UPS after it had been shipped. This was so exciting too! I could see where my packages had been scanned in and out with UPS. I made this order on Monday, April 28 and had it on Thursday May 1, 2003. Now that’s service!
When I would check the status of my order a separate page would pop up just for that purpose. All the information about the unit was right now at my fingertips. I received a conformation email after I had placed the order and I had the option to sign up for email letting me know when the unit had been shipped.
Back at the homepage of www.dell4me.com you find helpful links on the left hand side that will guide you through options of choice. For instance: “My Account” “Register Now” “Buy Printer Cartridges” “Tax and Shipping Information” “Returns” “Refurbished Systems” and so many more. Of course each link will take you to a new page to look around and make decisions.

How I Feel
Well apparently I am a happy camper! I was so surprised at how www.dell4me.com worked. Each page loaded quickly like I already stated. I was also surprised at the choices and how easy it was to get around. Although the pages have lots of information on them they are still easy to get around.
I also loved being able to make choices page by page for my computer of choice. Although, it did surprise me that there was not a floppy drive so I ordered one for my computer. I guess things have changed! After I was through with each page I hit the continue button found at the bottom of the page until all choices were made then I went to check out, which was very simple. I just put in our mailing address and the unit was on its way to being made and shipped to our home. Well, I did have to hit submit to complete the order! You also have the option of payment during this time.
I got the upgrades for free which were the CD Burner, Memory and other stuff right there at my fingertips.
I had no concerns about our information not being safe. www.dell4me.com comes recommend by Verisign.
Of course I had my daughter on the phone with me while I made my choice since computers have changed so much over the last 3 years, which was the last time I bought a computer. I wanted to make sure that I got things right! I am so proud of my new computer and all of its free upgrades and offers (coming in a review later). There are so many more things on this site, but the review would run way to long! You will just have to go and see for yourself just how great www.dell4me.com is!
