Pros: Cheap, reliable and quick.
Cons: 2meg buffer, no performance difference from 32x comparable models.
The Bottom Line: When everything is boiled down, expect to get a very solid affordable burner , just dont expect much more than 32x out of it.

| mp3-pawn's Full Review: LG GCE 8520B (GCE-8520BB) CD-RW Burner |
Prior to purchasing the 52x, I had a Plextor 16x writer. On average it would take 4 to 5minutes to burn 700meg onto a disc. The 52 can do it in a max of 3minutes 9seconds on my system. Just for clarification, my system is no slug either!.. we're talking Dual 1400mhz AMD MP processors, 512ddr ECC ram, and the works. If you figured out the exact time it should take to burn a cd, you'll find that at 52x (150k/s x 52) you should be able to complete a burn in just under 2minutes (with lead in and out).
Lets face it, there aren't many systems in the world capable of burning cds at that speed without shutting down every operation and program running in the background (thats any WINDOWS based system). This is why I dont suggest anyone to buy a burner over 32x, theres just no performance increase when you figure out the numbers.
Now when it comes to the cost of the unit, there aren't many CD-RWs that touch the price. I purchased it for just under 70$ CDN (which is approx 40$ for you American folk) and it not only is inexpensive, but its VERY reliable also. Many friends have this burner and have burnt over 1000 cds on it without a single problem with the drive (excluding windows problems).
