The Dell Inspiron 4150 is not a flashy laptop, rather it's more of a workhorse notebook, and does everything in the way it's supposed to. I've had this laptop for about a year now and have not yet faced any problems at all with it. But on the downside, this laptop is missing a lot of I/O ports such as USB 2.0 and Firewire. In addition Dell only provides ONE (!!) Usb 1.1 port, which is quite pathetic. I have a 1.6 Ghz P4-M, with 384 MB RAM, 40 GB HD, 32 MB Video card, 24x CD-RW/DVD combo drive and a SXGA+ LCD monitor.
The performance of this laptop is very impressive, but I did get the 5400 RPM Performance hard disk which would have a lot to do with it. The processor is more than adequate for most tasks and coupled with the 32 MB card is adequate to play most games except the newer 3d intensive ones. Otherwise in normal applications such as Office Xp, Windows, Internet Explorer performance is outstanding.
The screen SXGA+ in my opinion allows you to go up to a native resolution of 1600x1200, which is for most people way too high, and at a resolution like this text and images appear quite small. You would be better sticking with SXGA or even XGA, which should be adequate for most people.
Another good thing about this laptop is the battery life which gives roughly around 2 hours 30 mins with power saving features and SpeedStep on. Using ATI's powerplay feature you can sometimes get up to 2 hours 50 minutes on one single battery, which is exceptional, the laptop does slow down a bit while in battery saving mode but that much. You can swap the CD-RW/DVD drive to add a second battery.
The keyboard on the laptop is also very very good, and you dont feel it's a notebook keyboard, since it's almost full size and has very good response, you will not feel awakard typing on it at all. There is also a touchpad and pointer stick for the mouse provided.
All in all, the Dell Inspiron 4150 is a laptop does most things well, and is perfect for the user who wants performance with mobility.
