HP = QUALITY SHOPPINGWhy I decided to purchase directly from HP
My mom has had the same computer since 1996old by computer standards. We spent hours searching for the best deal on a computer. After searching the physical stores in our area we went online. Hours later we settled on HPShopping.com. Not only the best deal, they had rebates for several of the items we were purchasing, free shipping, and one-year same as cash if you applied for their partners financing.
I also was comforted by the fact that theyre a Better Business Bureau Online Certified Sitethis online certification is much stricter than the normal BBB standardsthey must comply with some tough standards when it comes to customer service (guaranteeing contact within certain time frames, complying with 3rd party mediation, and more). THE SITE
For a huge site with lots of products its amazingly easy to navigate. You can search by keyword, shop by type (printer, camera, computer), or custom build your own computer. After finding the perfect computer for my mom and realizing with rebates, free upgrades, and the great price of all the components she had money left over for a printer. After choosing an all-in-one-printer we shopped around to be sure we were getting a good deal on the printer as well. It was priced the same as our local stores, but with free shipping, no tax, and since she was also buying a computer shed receive a $50 rebate, it was a better deal.
Later I decided to buy the same printer for myself (even though I didnt qualify for the rebate). I added to that a duplexer and one for my mom as well.
Both our orders came when promised, were traceable through Fed Ex, and came in their original manufacturer cartons. This was the reason I chose a reputable dealerthere are two many gray market items out there or refurbished items sold as new.
RETURNS
They accept product returns and exchanges up to 30 days after delivery. After the 30 day period has ended, support for defective merchandise is provided by hp customer care. HPshopping.com will refund the original product price paid plus tax (if applicable). The original shipping and handling charges will not be refunded.
SHIPPING
We both used the free shipping optionboth of us were notified by e-mail when our items were expected to leave their warehouses and also when to expect them at our homes. My mom lives at the ocean, miles from any large town, and this did not delay her shipment in any way.
Their shipping prices are very reasonable and are based on the purchase price and the type of delivery requested. For in-stock items they offer Next Day, 2 Business Day, and 5-7 Business Days. Should you need it Saturday that can be done for an additional fee. We both received 5-7 Business Days on our in-stock items. My moms custom built machine took 3 days to build and 5 days to shipvery reasonable! An example of items totaling between $150.01 - $250.00 is $9.99 for 5-7 days, $14.99 for 5-7, $19.99 for next Business Day or Saturday delivery.
They ship to street addresses within the 50 United States and the District of Columbia. They cannot ship to PO boxes, APO, or FPO addresses, United States territories, or addresses outside the 50 United States and the District of Columbia. Special notethey do not allow address changes after an order has been accepted. This is for security purposes.
SERVICE
Service is available round-the-clock via telephone (toll free), e-mail, and their online self-help. You can also register your products online and sign-up to receive updates and notifications for your specific products.
PRIVACY
They have an entire page devoted to how they use your informationa very nice touch! The do promise to never spam you. They will not, under any circumstances, share your personal information with any company outside of hpshopping.com, Hewlett-Packard Company, or third parties acting on our behalf, such as those involved in purchasing and shipping your order or publication of our e-mail newsletters. You can opt out of some 3rd party information when you register.

****UPDATE 6/1/03****
I needed to return a printer that was damaged (we may have broken it by not removing a piece of tape inside the ADF unit that was put there to stabilize it during shipping). I called HP and was warmly treated by the Customer Service representative. He e-mailed me a RMA (necessary to send back the product) instantly. This was a Sunday night at 10:30pm. The next day FedEx arrived (sadly during the only part of the day my husband left the house). After another attempt to pick up on Tuesday failed, my husband delivered the box to FedEx on Wednesday. Five days later I started to worry about the replacement (although he told me it would take 5 days--I was just anxious to play with my new toy). I called again and was informed they'd received my broken unit back that morning and they were overnighting the replacement and I'd have it the next day. Amazingly, it was in my hands and hooked up (minus the piece of tape this time!) and working 24 hours after I talked with the representative. They never once made me feel stupid for not removing the tape--they didn't blame me or charge me for the shipping to return and replace. I'm HIGHLY satisfied with the friendliness and care shown by their representatives.
