The Lexar Media JDT-231 JumpDrive TRIO is a handy little USB storage device that can also be used as a card reader. The JumpDrive Trio is small, a little larger than a normal keychain. The Lexar Media JDT-231 JumpDrive TRIO comes with no memory of it's own. You simply insert a SD (Secure Digital) or MMC (Multimedia Card) into it and your ready to go. You then simply plug it into your USB port and your computer will recognize it as a removable hard drive with up to 128 Meg of storage space (depending on the size of the memory card you insert). The device is compatible with Windows 98 and above except for one big warning (reminder). If you are using Windows 98 you MUST obtain the necessary drivers from the Lexar website on the Internet. Also another big plus, the technical support at Lexar is great. I was having problems getting the drivers to load correctly on my computer (Windows 98) and I used there option to communicate with a technician directly through their website and he e-mailed me the necessary drivers and specific instructions for me in minutes. I was up and running in 10 minutes. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact their technical support at WWW.Lexarwebsite.com. Lexar has other versions of the JumpDrive that come with on board memory, but I found this model to be more convenient because I already had a second 128 Meg SD memory card for my Kodak DX4330 digital camera that I could also use for this. Therefore the whole drive only cost me the additional $19.99 for the JumpDrive since I already had the memory. The other reason I prefer using the model that requires you to supply your own memory, is that it allows me the flexibility of swapping different memory cards for different backup purposes, ie. storing images on one and MP3 files on another. I can then take the Jump Drive to a friends and share the files with them or to my job to bring work from home. No longer do I have to burn a CD in order to provide a friend with a copy of my photos or MP3 that won't fit on a diskette. Since almost everyone has a USB port nowadays, compatibility is no longer an issue. This device will make zip drives obsolete (plus the chances of your friends also having a zip drive are slim at best).The unexpected advantage I also found with this version of the JumpDrive is it allows me to load the images from my Digital camera without using up my camera's battery. I just simply insert the memory card from my camera into the JumpDrive and then plug it into the USB port of my computer and I can then access the images directly from the JumpDrive. This saves me the cost of additional batteries for my camera and the cost of buying a Secure Digital Card Reader (which would also run me at least $19.99). If you want to buy a drive with memory built in, it will run you approximately $50 for 128 Meg and $90 for 256 Meg. I have to admit I really never expected this little gizmo would come in so handy. I would highly recommend the Lexar Media JDT-231 JumpDrive TRIO to anyone who has images, MP3s or any types of files that they have to share with others, bring back and forth from home to work/school or needs to share between multiple computers at home.
