Toshiba rocks!!! The sound & video quality make this a top choice!

Pros: Superb screen resolution, insane sound quality, Toshiba quality & service.
Cons: Expensive, HDD could be faster, hard to find a good case for it, heavy.
The Bottom Line: It had the BEST SOUND out of ALL the others I demo'ed and the SXGA screen is superb! Good stuff!!!

Up front, I actually have a 5205-S5151 but the S505 is its kid brother. The S5151, only available at Office Depot, has in addition to the standard S505 features, Windows XP PRO and the Wireless LAN card installed.
I did a lot of shopping, reading, studying specs and reading reviews before I finalized on my Toshiba 5205-S5151. The key features that set it apart where, in order of importance (to me);
1. SXGA LCD display & GeForce4 460 graphics.
2. Harmon Kardon sound system
3. Windows XP PRO
4. Pentium-M CPU (longer battery life)
5. Wireless LAN
6. Toshiba quality, service & support (I used to be a Toshiba authorized Technician)
Needless to say, the Toshiba is a GREAT notebook!!! It won't beat a top-line DESKTOP but it is close. The one slow sub-system, in my opinion, is the hard drive. I don't have the specs but it is much slower than the ATA133 / 7200 rpm HDD's that are in some desktops. This means it loads data slower... AKA you WAIT LONGER. Yes, I am impatient...
The wirless NIC is nice, as I can go into any room and stay connected to my network and DSL connection. It works great! The screen resolution is very crisp but small. The tiny text hurt my eyes after a while so I ended up enlarging the Windows fonts. Much better!!!!
I also went to Toshiba's web site and purchased the extended 3-yr. warranty that covers ALL DAMAGE, even dropping it or cracking the screen. (dropped notebooks and cracked screens were our most common repair, so it is good to have this covered.)
All in all, you can't go wrong with any 5205 series notebook! It had the BEST SOUND out of ALL the others I demo'ed and the SXGA screen is superb! Good stuff!!!
