Nicely done! (Reply to this comment)
by mrkstvns
I've been hearing nice things about Safari -- one review I saw in a tech journal benchmarked it as about 12 times faster than IE. The article went on to say that Apple wasn't really doing Safari to compete against Microsoft.
I think everyone knows IE is bloatware, I'd be interested in seeing head-to-head comparisons some time against a browser that *TRIES* to be lean and mean (yeah, I'm talking Opera).
Very nice overview here, Hawg!

Thanks, Mark. I don't really know how much faster Safari is as, heck, everything seems pretty quick on a T-1 line.
Still, I like this little browser much better than either IE or Netscape. Once Apple fixes the bugs, this will be outstanding.
The whole package seems to be in line with Apple's philosophy these days -- making great products for OS X and not worrying so much about Microsoft's presence in the market.

Good review (Reply to this comment)

Good comprehensive review of Safari.
About Snapback, the feature doesn't require you to define a page for snapback for it to work. By default, the snapback page is whatever last page you navigated to by typing in a URL or through a bookmark.
Suppose i go to www.amazon.com by typing in the URL, and i navigate down a couple of levels. I can always go straight back to the amazon main page via snapback.
Its also very handy for Google searches.
I do agree with you that its not as big a deal as Apple makes it out to be. Its sort of a hard concept to conceive for the average user...
but its a feature that geeks will love. I use it whenever i can, though it takes some thought to use it... it does make things go faster.
Good review, enjoy Safari!

Thanks! After looking a bit, you're right -- I didn't describe "Snap Back" accurately, and I'll correct that.
And, how did I leave out the Google search feature? I use it constantly!
