| r0rym's Full Review: Samsung SCH-A310 Mobile Phone |
This cellular phone caught my attention because of its display. It's bright blue LCD backlight is fun to look at, and the external Caller ID box can change colors based on who's calling. With these fun features aside, the Samsung A-310 leaves little else to rave about. The phone's menus are often difficult to navigate and seem impractical at times. Also, the silent mode feature leaves something to be desired. Turned on by simply holding down the pound key, it suppresses all noises created by the phone, making it vibrate instead. In theory, the phone will vibrate when someone calls you with this feature active. However, this feature does not work if the phone is anywhere outside its home network (regardless of your calling plan). Instead of vibrating when in silent mode, the phone does absolutely nothing to let you know someone is calling. I have called Samsung technical support about the issue, a technician told me the phone was most likely defective and to get it replaced. Verizon replaced the phone free of charge, but the problem was not fixed. A second technician explained the roaming issue to me. When I commented that I thought this was a bad design flaw, the technician seemed offended and said he thought it was perfectly fine. My point is, the function of a feature should not change based on where I happen to be. The phone battery dies quickly and there are absolutely no normal ringtones. Also, sometimes I have to try sending a call several times before the phone actually connects. I miss my Motorla StarTac.
