Boy, I wish I had read the recent, less-than-glowing reviews here before "trying out" eDiets. It's impossible to see the tools you'll really be using before signing up, and what you might expect from their marketing spiel is not necessarily what you'll get once you sign up. What's worse is that once you sign up, it's nearly impossible to get out without paying for three months of service or incurring a whopping penalty fee.

My advice to others is A) stay away, or B) (if it's too late) call customer service and ask for a manager. I'm still out the cost of one month of service, but it's worth it to be free of eDiets!

not for people who live a busy lifestyle or in nyc, or BOTH. all they offer is a shopping list and recipes/menus and they claim that is the diet PLAN.

for 38 bucks or whatever it is, you can do this on your own, with friends, or through other means. in my opinion, its a total sham and you should spend your diet dollars elsewhere.

I tried ediets and HATED it. I found the website to confusing to use(my exercise plan never did come up) and the customer service horrible. I found Denise Austin's website and it is WONDERFUL. Easy to use and the workouts are quick and painless. I have lost 7lbs in 3 weeks!!!! It's cheaper that ediets too! GIVE HER A TRY!!!!!

over all satisfaction HORRIBLE.....the food was not good. and very redundant. No variety. the order accuracy was also poor not to mention they double shipped me a day apart, and charged for it, refusing to refund my money. I also told them that I would be sending back the delivery, which they told me I could not because of "food safety issues" FEDX came out no problem and returned the package to them.
they sent numerous shipments that were not ordered. I couldn’t get anyone on the phone ... I sent about 20 emails before I finally heard back, Very untimely response...as I tried to cancel shipments. worked out for them....
I received more meatloaf and mash potatoes than I would eat in a years time over the 4 weeks of delivery. The included this meal at least 3 times each week.

Don't get sucked into purchasing their meal delivery. They deliver via FedEx ground - fresh food which takes 5 days. The food was spoiled because it took 5 days to get to me - they refused to give me a refund for spoiled food. It was warm. The ice packs were all warm. The food hadn't been kept cold for more than a day or two. It sat on a warm truck for 5 days! All they would do is refund the shipping!!!!! Very much a scam - plus they tacked on a $25 cancellation penalty because I did not want the service any more. Why would I want to pay for spoiled food to be shipped to me? Disgusting.

If you are serious about losing weight, go to weight watchers or join a gym. This site is really useless, more so because when you try to cancel, the number they give you 1800-265-6170 is always busy or you're on hold for 20 minutes to cancel. This site as far as customer service is horrible, even more so when it comes to canceling the account. I lost 20lbs by exercising and 1/2 all my portions. Good luck.

This is an absolute rip off. The diet plans aren't customized for an you! They are right straight from the Atkins book or free on the atkins website

TERRIBLE customer service. They completely lie about their "cancel anytime", and keep billing your credit card until you scream loudly enough. Other reviews have said exactly the same thing. I wish I had listened, and I hope you will before you subscribe.

In a latest desperate attempt to lose weight I recently subscribed to e-diets.com. The web site was difficult to navigate, the sign up and sign on precesses constantly tried to get me to purchase accessory services (somewhat covertly with check boxes that needed un-checking before proceeding and such), the menus were somewhat esoteric and often included ingredients and recipes unsuitable to a working mother. After a difficult search though the convoluted web site for information regarding the process, I unsubscribed to the service, but was billed again 6 days later. I hate e-diets.com. :o(

I am glad that some people have had success using ediets.com ...but here is the sad truth about the site...

The selection of food on ANY chosen ediet program is very limited and not very creative.

Their "Free diet profile" didn't fit with other profiles I had submitted on other sites...ediets told me I had to stick to 1200 calories to lose weight and other sites told me I had to stick to 1700 calories to lose weight...which is it?

Logistically you cannot cancel your account online if you find that the diets are either 1)not working for you 2) sick with the food 3) whatever other reason you decide. You have to call customer service who will charge you a $25 early cancellation fee to your credit card.

When you agree to their terms you are signing up for three billing cycles of $17.95. This is in fine print in their "terms" when you hand over your credit card information. That is nearly $60 for an online "guide".

Also beware of "diet blogs" who write wonderful reviews about ediets because they, of course are getting a profit/click through from your traffic going to their blog and clicking their link on their blog.

Buyer Beware!

Wonder how many people that praise the Ediets.com for being great are affiliated with the Ediets.com. The service, advice, and menus may work for some. That is a good thing. However, the membership billing policy is a something Eddie Haskell from Leave it to Beaver would be proud of. Just sign up for $15.96 for 28 days, automatically renews, you can cancel at anytime. However, if you can before the third billing cycle then you pay a $25 Early Termination fee.

If you worded the billing agreement like the following it would be more accurate.

Sign up for a three month trial. Pay $15.96 per month automatically and cancel early if unsatisfied. Subject to early termination fee of $25 if cancelled prior to third billing cycle.

However, I am not a lawyer and I am sure it may lower your scam success rate.

To anyone who thinks the description of a "customizable" diet where you can select your favorite foods is appealing, then please know that AFTER you pay, it is revealed that you can select to exclude WHOLE FOOD GROUPS, not individual foods like it leads you to believe, and that if a vegetable comes up that you don't like (or a food you are allergic to) in your pre-selected diet, it is time-consuming to modify, and you can't ban that food for the future.  I IMMEDIATELY (within an hour) emailed them to say that I felt misled, and that I wanted a refund, but they would not do it, and kept my money for the initial term (I don't remember if it was a 1 month or 3 month trial I signed up for).  I expected check boxes next to individual veggies, dairy, meats, fishes, fruits, poultry, etc. on my "customizable" diet, and instead just got those categories. SCAM!!!!

I'm surprised by all of the negative comments.
I've been on eDiets for 3 weeks. I chose the Slim Fast plan. As a full-time law student, with very little time, I found it is easy to carry around the fruit and slim fast drinks. So far, the menus have been ideal, substitution easy and I'm able to eat a lot of things I really enjoy. I'm able to eat almost all of my favorite foods.

I set up my weekly menu plan based on my favorite recipes, then the shopping list is designed and printed--by area in the grocery store.

I enjoy the support groups...especially when they have the "challenges". Even though you don't know the other participants personally, you still don't want to let your team down (or yourself!).

The thing I like most about the program is that I am totally responsible for my progress and my plan. So far, I've lost 8 pounds.

This is indeed a SCAM!

I was initially disappointed, eventually furious. This Web site is, very simply, charging money for access to an online recipe book, and they should say so up front.

Actually, they should say a lot of things up front, such as "our cancellation policy is an outright lie." There is no ability to view the site until you give up your credit card information, but their terms and conditions state that you may cancel by 11 p.m. on the same day of registration, so I enrolled. I was given a list of unappetizing recipes and basically nothing else. After spending about 1 minute on the site, I called to cancel and was ultimately informed that it would cost $25 to do so.

This is the epitome of online rip-offs. I wish I had checked out the "DIET is a four-letter word" review on Epinions before even visiting the site. It is because of this experience that I joined Epinions - to WARN OTHERS about ediets.com!

3/7/2006: I am still in a battle with ediets. I pretty well convinced that they are a databank of computers, rather than people. Our credit card company is tired of their games, as are we.

I followed their instructions, terminating my membership 9 hours BEFORE midnight. Of note, once you join, there's no information on the site on where to go to cancel before midnight that I could find. I had to pretend to join again to find the fine print about that. Emailed. Received an email back saying they would terminate AT THE END OF 3 MONTHS. I wrote back refuting this--no response. Credit card billed. Called 1-800 number, which told me to go to Live Support. Just try and find a real link to live support. I've yet to locate it. No answer after 30-minute call back wait at 1-800 number. I'm a VERY unhappy camper. They do everything possible to get you to give up and pay for 3 months. I'm disgusted with ediet's lack of response....and happy as a clam at myfooddiary.com.
