Just got off the phone with customer service at Ediets.com, canceling my membership. One day I will learn to read Epinions before I get myself into these jams! I thought 11.98 per month was very reasonable and I needed some menu guidance, but once I had entered my credit card information and saw all the extra hidden charges they were adding, I freaked! Unless you unclick each and every option before you click "proceed" you will end up with an outrageous charge.
I unclicked ALL the options and still ended up with a final total of 31.88. I stopped the process at that point and immediately called customer service (I had already received email confirmation of my membership despite the fact the I had not finalized my transaction). Customer service agreed to cancel, and told me there would be no charges on my card, but that remains to be seen- I don't trust anyone who does business in such a shady way.
They sign you up for a 3-month minimum by tallblondenc ,Feb 25 '07
Be aware that when you sign up, you are signing up for a minimum of three months of service. I wanted to cancel after the first month, and to my surprise I owe for two more months. My fault, I know, for not reading the terms closely...just wanted to warn others.
These people suck, would not let me cancel without calling them. Then tried to make me stay and told me I had agreed to an early cancelation fee. I dont remember this, or it was buried in the fine print.
Good companies dont do business this way.... Plus the support didnt help. Buy a book for 1/10th the price.
AWFUL...DON'T DO IT ... ITS A SCAM by wahlbin ,Sep 28 '06
Please Be Aware of the Terms and conditions and read them carefully, know exactly what you are being signed up for.
...if you cancel your membership before the end of the third 28 day billing cycle, your credit card will be charged a $25.00 Early Termination Fee (ETF). The ETF will be waived and all fees refunded, however, if you cancel your membership by Midnight (EST) on the day you join by calling 800-265-6170 and you have not yet generated a personalized Diet Plan.
Basically there is no way to preview whether or not you like it or not, you are liable unless you do nothing...whatever you do, do not create anything unless you are absolutely sure that you want the service.
WORST buying experience possible!!! :( by khriskin ,Feb 01 '05
eDiets is a Rip-off!!!
I signed up for the fitness plan and everywhere on everypage it told me it was a $2.00 plan... and I quote: "Details of Your Diet Order - Please Read, Only $2 Per Week... Cancel Anytime, For Any Reason! (Billed Quarterly) Please see final receipt page for add-on billing terms and conditions." "Only $2 Per Week... Cancel Anytime, For Any Reason! (Billed Quarterly)"
However when the charge appeared on my credit card it was for $52.87!! Apparently you automatically have to pay for the diet plan (which I did NOT want NOR ORDER!) which is a whopping $38.87! And to top it all off they won't refund the first four weeks of the diet plan (about $12.00) because the diet plan has a minimum enrollment time of 4 weeks.
Highly disappointed! I joined and looked at the site for exactly 10 minutes and decided that E-diets wasn't going to work for me. I sent an e-mail to cancel 10 minutes after I joined and was told I would have to pay for a 3 month membership anyway. After calling the "customer service" number and speaking, no arguing, with Sonny, and waiting on hold for a supervisor for over 25 minutes. And then reexplaining the situation 3 TIMES to the supervisor, Jennifer I was told that I would still have to pay for 4 weeks of membership. ALL this and 33 minutes of my time on the phone!!! What a waist of time.
Word to the wise......read all the FINE print SEVERAL times before giving out your credit card numbers!!! And stay away from E-diets if customer service is important to you!
So I wrote a letter to the CEO! And waited a week or so and got a phone call. Got all my money back! What a surprise! WRITE A LETTER!! It worked for me!!!!!

eDiets.com scam brought to you by Florida...... by ejttech ,Aug 19 '05
TOTAL SCAM!!! Signed up with eDiets.com for the custom diet plan (LAME). If you wish to log your workouts, get exercise suggestions, etc., it will be an additional fee. The sign-up pages are extremely deceptive and to opt-out for the many cost added other items , you really have to be careful. The links to decline offers for a lifetime supply of soy products is so small, you can easily miss it as I did. Few days later, I have a box full of this vile soy garbage. Not one word of this being added when I signed up and no detailed receipt. This is simply another disgraceful Florida based scam.
Totally awesome and it's the best diet plan out there! by andiesmama ,Oct 04 '06
I was a member of ediets 4 years ago, after my daughter was born and this was the only plan that helped me lose the baby weight! I since regained some of that weight back and tried many different "plans" to lose it, nothing worked...I re-joined ediets about 3 weeks ago and have lost so far a total of 5 pounds! Ediets is great because they have a large variety of plans for you to pick from, then you get a weekly menu with recipes and a shopping list. They make it so easy with that PLUS online support groups, challenges & contests...I highly recommend this diet plan.
Worst Company I've EVER done business with. by sciancio ,Mar 17 '08
eDiets was very difficult to work with. Their website misled me into believing that there would be desserts available, but there is only ONE to choose, and that they would have vegetarian choices, which they had NONE for dinner and few for lunch. I tried to cancel my order within 10 minutes of placing it and they would NOT let me cancel. Under frequently asked questions on their website it says you can cancel as long as it has not shipped. This is NOT correct, as their fine print contradicts this.
Horrible. If you are a busy professional looking for help making healthy food choices at restaurants and on the go, then look somewhere else. This site is not the place for you. If you have tons of time to cook every meal, then it might be all right.
Not of caution, any site that charges a $25.00 early termination fee for canceling your account within the first 3 months is as close to a scam as you can get. Plus they offer no refunds, not even within the one hour "wow this site is useless" mark.
Most of their information is common sense or can be found for free on the web. Seriously,do not waste your time. You are better off finding a free tip site or one that costs less.
"intro" rate gets you only a meal plan, everything else is MUCH extra by silvertaurus ,Mar 03 '06
Similar to what so many others have said, but here it is...
I had been a member several years ago and enjoyed it. I joined again this year, and WOW....everything that used to be considered a natural part of your subscription is now extra. You can easily end up paying $60 a month for what you used to get for $15 or $20. It is a true shame.
Furthermore, the same problem that others mention exists...when you try and cancel your membership, it is not followed through on. I'm still trying to get it canceled. I have called and emailed, and I have tried to cancel via. the website but it says that the option does not exist. Shameful.
ABSOLUTELY HORRIFIC SERVICE by jjs1999rt ,Jul 14 '08
WATCH OUT - SCAM IS A NICE WAY TO PUT IT!! TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE, I CANCELLED IN MARCH 08 THEY BILLED ME TWO MONTHS IN JULY STATING THEY FORGOT TO BILL IN APRIL AND MAY, AND HAVE NO RECORD OF MY CANCELLATION. REFUSED TO LET ME SPEAK WITH MANAGEMENT, REFUSED TO REFUND AMOUNTS, HAD TO CHALLENGE THROUGH MY BANK, WE'LL SEE IF THAT WORKS, THEY ACTUALLY LECTURED ME ONHOW TO KEEP ELECTRONIC RECORDS FOR DISPUTES SUCH AS THIS, EVEN WHEN THEY ADMIT THEY HAD A COMPUTER GLITCH, AND DIDN'T BILL ME, APPARENTLY THAT IS MY FAULT.
THE ONLY WAY YOU LOSE WEIGHT HERE IS IN YOUR WALLET!! I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO TURNED OFF BY A COMPANY IN MY LIFE, PROTECT YOUR INFORMATION FROM THIS SITE.
TERRIBLE....BE CAREFUL TO READ ALL THE DETAILS by powelbl ,Jul 09 '06
terrible....
you get stuck with a 3 month commitment even if this is not for you!
This is no different than the other dozen sites and products out there.
BE CAREFUL AND READ EVERYTHING BEFORE GOING FURTHER.
They are money suckers!!They charged me for 2 months I quit the online membership processing without confirming my personal information on their website. I called them I talked to their reps they refused to pay my money back. Moreover They'll charge me for another month. I found the e-mail I received from them after I thought I cancelled everything. The e-mail doesn't say anything about they charged my credit card. They don't even bother to send you an e-mail after they suck your money. I was so sure that I had cancelled everything so that I didn't even go their website again.Their website is terrible because while you're trying to join this money suckers' club they keep offering you all kinds of stuff. If you don't read them carefully, in just couple of seconds they'll start charging you for all this crap too.I joined weightwatchers. They are very friendly. You can go their meetings without any obligation, without any commitment. Please be aware what you read on Ediets' website. If possible quit ASAP!
Ediets lies definitely be cautious.....they have totally fictionalized there money back guarantee. By the way I have used Southbeach online with no problem and cancelled with no problem but was disgusted when ediets came back and told me I either had to pay for two more months or a twenty five dollar cancellation fee. If you are looking for a free diet program which I found a week after I left ediet. Go to sparkpeople.com. I had a problem with them back in 2000 too cancelling my membership the right month and like an idiot I went back to try them.......by the way there whole program in my opinion is just a gimmick as well. Ediets stinks!
