Pros: Small liberal arts college with the resources of an Ivy League Cons: Beauracracy - but that's everywhere
Summary: Barnard College is a small, liberal arts school affiliated with Columbia University. Oh yea, and it's a girl's school. After attending Barnard for four years, I am left with the question of how necessary a school like Barnard is, when there is Columbia ... read more

Pros: Access to Columbia's classes, facilities, student organizations; unique, cool classes and administration at Barnard Cons: Barnard-Columbia tension, little access to Columbia's dorms
Summary: Is Barnard Columbia's 'girl next door,' as Lisa dreamed on the Simpsons? To go to Columbia, one only has to hop across Broadway, but sometimes, it seems like the gap between Barnard and Columbia is very, well, broad. Here I will attempt to describe the ... read more

Pros: diversity, small college feel of Barnard with large university options of Columbia, New York City! Cons: time-consuming first year program, some confusion about the Barnard-Columbia relationship, cliques
Summary: I'm not going to pretend like I haven't heard that Barnard women are supposed to be man-hating, hairy lesbians or awkward, bookish plain-Janes. I'll tell you that most people change their minds about those stereotypes when they meet a Barnard woman. ... read more

Pros: Theoretically extensive, great professors, well-laid foundations Cons: Attention to grad students (unless you speak up), lacking in popular music theory
Summary: I truly value the music education that I received at Barnard. However, it should be noted that I actually took no Barnard music classes. The music department at Columbia University is almost entirely situated on the Columbia campus. But this ... read more

Summary: I am a Barnard senior, Sherri, and am using my boyfriend's epinions account. The Barnard/Columbia theatre department is very interesting. It is small, with lots of individual attention from professors. The department is located at Barnard's campus, ... read more

Pros: close to campus, nice rooms Cons: broken elevators
Summary: I was first placed in this dorm as a freshman transfer student. I was in a huge double room on the eleventh floor with hard wood floors and lots of sunlight. Since then I have lived in other dorms on campus but I always remembered the homey feeling of ... read more

Pros: location, size, kitchen facilities Cons: small rooms
Summary: I have lived in Elliott Hall for almost two years now, and while it is one of the least-desireable dorms on campus, I don't think it's that bad. The furniture is new, there are no rodents or bugs, there aren't so many people here that you can't make ... read more
