Pros: Location and diverse educational opportunities Cons: normal urban safety worries, dorm food
All things change over time - university administrations, curricula, students, even the neighborhoods in which schools exist. I know that Loyola is not the same university I attended twenty years ago, but I am close enough to know that it is a still...

Pros: Location--Chicago! Cons: academic program administrative staff
I have found Loyola University to be a lackluster school. Nothing about it stands out. The students don't particularly care one way or the other about the school. The academic program is mediocre. Their study abroad programs are in shambles. The...

Pros: CHICAGO!!! And the faculty. Cons: Financial crisis, overcrowding, too many commuters, poor school spirit, administration.
QUICK HISTORY LESSON Loyola had a very out-of-touch administration throughout the 1990s. They essentially depleted the university's endowment, losing $25-30 million per year for more than a decade. To be exact, one of the better years was FY2000 - ...

Pros: It is a well known school. Cons: The on campus housing.
Loyola University is a great school academic wise. I think that anyone who goes there will receive a quality education and will be able to get any job that there degree will fit with. The professors at Loyola seem to really care about the student and...

Our daughter just finished her freshman year at Loyola university in Chicago. We drove her there last August with tears streaming down her face at the prospect of being away from home for the first time. Our advice to her was "get involved!"...

Pros: well known, beautiful campus, great opportunities Cons: Big city life and noise
From the start, Loyola University Chicago captivated me with its urban beauty. With features such as the El train, the nearby museums, and of course, the beautiful lake and surrounding beaches, how could I not take the chance to attend this school? ...

Pros: Great Programs Cons: Tution is Outrageous, Bad Student Support...
This school acted as a fall back for me after I had missed a deadline for an in-state public school. The tuition was not even in a comparable category. After I had survived the sticker shock, I took out adequate loans and figured the price for a...

Pros: Excellent faculty Cons: Difficult schedule
Admittedly the most difficult of majors at Loyola the nursing program provides an excellent introduction to the profession of nursing. I have found that my degree has given me the expertise needed to excel in my field of nursing and prepared me for the...

Pros: Professor Dan Vaillancourt (Philosopy)
located in Chicago Cons: overall horrible university. not welcoming or encouraging
Loyola appears to be a nice school, even when i visited the campus it seemed alright, but i was seriously wrong. The administration is very messed up, they really don't care at all if your grades go in the way the professor entered them. Two times now I ...

Pros: It's in Chicago
It's Catholic Cons: It's expensive
The academics are way over rated
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DON'T COME TO LOYOLA. From the first day of orientation, I was so depressed about coming here, once I realized that this university is full of shi-, that I drank myself retarded. This university has tripled in class size in the past ...

Loyola-I urge you to look elsewhere
by missionhillsks ,Jan 28 '04
Pros: in Chicago Cons: expensive, commuter school
As a recent transfer from Loyola to Miami University in Oxford, Ohio I have seen both an urban and now a small college town setting. Being from Kansas City I was attracted to Chicago's urban setting. After attending for a semester I found that many students are unhappy and the 34,000 a year price is not worth the money. Majors are limited, bad food, expensive and poor housing. Chicago is awesome, but Loyola is in debt which they did not tell their incoming class and it caters primarily to commuter students. It is a commuter school. Do not go there. I wish it had fulfilled my expectations as a jesuit university but it is in dire need of many things.

Loyola Nursing School
by bogarde ,Jun 26 '08
Pros: Location Cons: Administration, cost, unorganized, clinicals
The administration is horrible, the program was very disorganized and everything was changing down until the last minute. They could not get us info on taking the NCLEX/fingerprinting. Clinical sites were not in the city, we had to drive nearly 90 minutes to get to one of our clinical sites in the far west suburbs. Clinical experiences were not very hands on. They also charged us for services they did not provide.

Not worth the money
by bustop ,Mar 20 '08
Pros: Chicago Cons: Everything else
If the tuition were less, maybe. But the education, community, and 4 years of your life do not warrent these prices. The school attracts those who wanna experience living in a urban environment. Everyone brings their small town mindset...no fun!

good school
by darkpass21 ,Jun 06 '08
Pros: diverse, beautiful campus by the lake, good faculty, excellent for pre-med and liberal arts education Cons: limited housing, freezing Chicago weather, administration has gotten bad rep but is gradually improving.
The administration has improved quite a bit. For people who are looking to party every night and slack off, this place is not for you at all. Many people take their education seriously, but have time to make fun.
