Pros: Great academic program. Small school. Good location. Cons: If you're not a Reedie, you're not a Reedie. Period.
This opinion of Reed College is based on my visit of Reed. And that alone. I don't attend that school, and I'm not planning on it. But I feel as if what I have to say is still good advice considering my visit there. And now on with the story.

Pros: World class instruction, nice facilities Cons: It's a really HARD school to get through. Very liberal leanings. Conservatives beware!
Reed College is a small school on a small and lovely garden like campus located in Portland, Oregon. It's really tiny with perhaps 1500 students (including graduate students) in a busy year. Never heard of it? That's not surprising. Most folks ...

Pros: Academic, competitive, political Cons: Academic, competitive, political
Introduction and typical disclaimers
Reed College is the one topic I have alerts on. Despite the fact I've written on many other products, ideas and topics, I simply read about Reed, I don't write.
Why not? Well, I was...

Pros: pushes you, unique experience, full of interesting people Cons: very very hard, not always rewarding, brutal
It was near the time to take out junior qual, a qualifying exam we all had to take at Reed to make it to our Senior year and start writing our thesis. We, the three or four junior anthropology majors, were hanging out in the library lobby, when a...

Pros: wholly and completely challenging Cons: stress results from challenge
First, a quick summary:
Food: decent. But eating at the same restaurant for nine months three times a day is bound, bound, i say, to make anyone sick.
People: Smart. Intense. Driven.
Classes: Tough. Really, Really tough. Well, actually,...

Pros: Study until you drop (if that's for you) Cons: Study until you drop (if that's not for you)
Be all you can be and go to Reed College. You will look upon it one day as the purest academic and intellectual experience you've ever had. I studied at Reed from 1992-1996 as a Russian Literature major, and was amazed at the level of brilliance that...

Pros: Semi-elite liberal arts college. A proven launch pad for future PhD's. Cons: East coast tuition. A lot of students transfer out. Body odor is cool.
That classic Reed motto was embalmed in my brain since high school since my dad knew Reedies and I knew Reedies. A former mayor of Portland, OR is a Reedie. Therefore, I did not go to Reed. The campus in 89-90 was crusty, raspy and ghetto when I visited,...

Pros: good academics Cons: safety school
Reed College is another decent liberal arts school. However, the fact that it never appear on the top-ten list of the US. news, or not even on the first-tier, makes it a famous safety school for those who fail to get into their dream places. Many...
