Pros: north woods locale, friendly students, respectable academic reputation Cons: red tape/disorganized student services, long winters require creativity to stay busy!
I graduated from UMD in 1999, but since I’m also a high school counselor and frequently deal with prospective/current UMD students and college reps, I feel at least somewhat qualified to write something useful on the place. I should note that being a ...

Pros: You meet people, and don't have to drive to school. Cons: Finding people you can live with for 9 months and staying sane.
One of the most nerve wracking things about going to college away from home is where to live on campus, and more so than that, who to live with. I'll try and guide you through the various residence halls and on campus apartments in this...

Pros: You get your own room, it's quiet, no DC food! Cons: Small kitchen, you hear the cheering from the ball games, you have to actually walk in the snow to get to class (gotta love the all inside campus up here).
Home-The place you go to study, eat, sleep, and generally relax. My home away from home is in the Stadium Apartments on the University of Minnesota-Duluth campus.
The Basics
The stadium apartments are located right next to the...

Pros: just the right size, extra curriculars for every one, easygoing students Cons: none
UMD brings the University of Minnesota to a smaller and more comfortable level. With enrollment of 8,100 it is big enough to have a wide variety of programs and services, but small enough for a freshman to feel at home within the first week of...

Pros: Made A few friends and partied quite a bit! Cons: realizing half way through the process that the majority of the friends I made were not going to be close friends.
In my own experience this chapter of Gamma Sigma Sigma tarnished the classy+Party = Fun, Friends notion I had about sororities before pledging. I wanted to get a jump-start on my friendships at UMD, so I thought, "What better way than to join a...

Pros: Pretty location, quality education Cons: Not too much to do around campus
Should you go to UMD? Well, that depends on a lot of factors. First of all, if you are coming from out of state, don't bother. The out of state tuition (with the exception of the affiliated reciprocity states of Wisconsin and North Dakota) is not...

Pros: Very brilliant Profs Cons: Can't understand a word they say
I started my time at the University of Minnesota Duluth as a Chemistry major. This was a mistake for a number of reasons that I won't go into here. What I did learn as a Chemistry student is that UMD has a lot of Profs who don't speak English well. I...

Pros: None! Cons: Everything is wrong with this system!
All I have to say with the new software that is being implemented at the University is that it is the biggest headache ever. I thought the U was trying to get rid of some of their red tape, instead they created more. Let me personally tell you my...

Pros: Picturesque Location Cons: Not Working-Person Friendly
The University of Minnesota, Duluth is in general a good school, and I love the locale...being on the shores of Lake Superior is awesome. However, when I went back to college for my Masters Degree, I was not able to get evening and summer classes in...

Pros: Away from cities, scenery Cons: None
The University of Minnesota-Duluth is a great place to learn and have fun while doing it. Located in Duluth, Minnesota, the campus lies on beautiful Lake Superior. UMD is a favorite for many high school students from Minnesota because it is not far from...
