Pros: wide range of programs, cheaper than private colleges, decent faculty Cons: huge, classes can fill early, rising tuition, harsh winters
My review is based on 6 years I worked in a Computer Science graduate program at the UofM - no undergraduate experience there. In its teaching and research parts, this review concentrates on the CS department as the one I had a primary experience with....

Pros: huge campus, many different programs, many research opportunities Cons: huge campus (again), sometimes tough to wade through the red tape
For some reason I feel a need to defend my alma mater from everyone who is berating its sports record. Well, the last time I checked I never picked a school based on its ability to field a good sports team, but I have picked schools based on their...

Pros: You learn a lot about your strengths and weakness Cons: It can be a big inconvenient to get what you want
In the beginning you feel like the most insignificant person on campus, but the University of Minnesota-TC teaches you to be an individual and shows you your strength and weakness. You actually find out what kind of person you are. You really have to...

Pros: Everything Cons: can be cold in a bureaucratic sense as well as temperature
Where does one begin with a school like UM?
I'll start with the bad because it is a challenge and you should be highly aware of it - however - once you get crushed into the gears and understand the greasing you'll do fine.......registration...

Pros: Strong academics supported by many good instructors and a diverse city/student body. Cons: Like anything, the U is what you make of it!
The U of MN - TC is a great school, if you make it that way. Like any other large university, the U has a habit of making new students feel anonymous in large classes with more TAs than instructors. My advice to those coming in is simple:
- Don't...

Pros: The campus is very diverse. Clean. Safe. Cons: Confusing at first.
I will be entering my junior year at the University of Minnesota, and am excited and love it more than ever. Prior to attending the university, I heard over and over.."It's so big, you'll never see anyone twice." Well, those people were definitely ...

Pros: good football program Cons: Basketball Scandal
The Minnesota Golden Gophers athletic program has undergone much turmoil over the past few years. The whole deal with coach Clem Haskins and the basketball team has really put a bad label on golden gopher athletics in general. This should not be the...

Pros: lots of equipment, and great science and band department Cons: too big!
This school have a great science program...
I would go for graduate school...
but it is FAR too big for under grad.
Little personal attention, and too much partying make this school a bad choice for most looking for a good undergrad...

Pros: Great academic institution with great freedom Cons: Not a lot of close faculty support
I have nothing but great things to say about the U of MN - as long as you are the independent type. It is a large place, with a lot of people, so you need to be ready to be another number. But the upside, is that you have the freedom to be who you want...

Pros: A great way to get involved Cons: None
I was actually a member of quite a few student organizations.
Each one has its own flavor and I would suggest to try a multiple organizations-however the University Young Women was one of the first organizations I was involved in and stayed...
