Pros: Great time at the game, great T-shirt slogans Cons: football team hasn't won a game since August 1998
UPDATE: The Gamecocks have won their first two games of the season, including an upset over Georgia!! Go 'cocks!
I'm talking about Gamecocks, of course. What were you thinking of?
Yes, I actually went to a school whose mascot...

Pros: Strong academics on graduate level. Relatively inexpensive. Cons: Quality not consistent for all depts.
Attending graduate school was the single best decision I ever made in my life. Not only because I met my husband there, but because I enjoyed being able to focus exclusively and in-depth on my particular area of interest. I found all the usual...

Pros: @ 3000 watts, you can listen anywhere; the music they play is eclectic. Cons: The license is owned by the board of trustees and therefore subject to their whims and desires.
When I was but a wee young lad of 18, I came to the University of South Carolina here in my home state to get learned on the art of advertising and public relations. Now, ten years later, I am about to Graduate. As a young journalism major, gung-ho about...

Pros: challenge, excellence, variety, personal attention Cons: none
As a graduate with a Bachelor's in Marine Science, I have seen almost all aspects of the school in action. Academically, in Marine Science, it is among the best of the best, and certainly the best for the money. Very few universities offer...

Pros: Independent, Spirited, Co-Ed Cons: Can be overwhelming
Preston offers a unique living experience for undergrads at the University of South Carolina-Columbia. Social interaction and personal initiative are the norm in the building, and given the alternatives, it must be the best dorm to live in at USC....

Pros: Delicious food and lots of variety Cons: Sometimes expensive
Never have I ever seen a university campus offer such a large variety of food to its students as the cafeteria system at USC.
Moving on campus at USC my freshman year after 18 years of growing up eating my mothers delicious home cooking, I ws...

Pros: Location, proximity to beach/mountains, diverse student population Cons: Large classes, students can get "lost" on a large campus
The University of South Carolina is a large state-supported school. That much is a matter of fact. However, while opinions may vary about the school and the quality of education and student life found there, I'm a firm believer that you get out of it...

Pros: Private rooms, beautiful view, centrally located Cons: Cost, early morning sounds, cost, and cost.
How often is it that you are given the option of living in a 150 year old building overlooking one of the most beautiful campuses in the country. Not often. Which is why I was absolutly ELATED when for my senior year I managed to get the last room for...

Pros: Great people, learning experience, traveling for cheap, you miss school, great fun! Cons: Trips and dues aren't free; some school is missed
After being involved with Model United Nations all four years in high school I decided to continue in college. I had a great amount of fun in high school, even though it was a really small and uninvolved club. I had won a scholarship and other awards and...

Pros: Large, nice rooms, interesting opportunities Cons: Facist-esque society of pseudo-liberals
When you look into attending the University of South Carolina, one of the selling points of propaganda that is presented before you, other than the honors college, is the dorm known as Preston Residential College.
I even got to stay in Preston...

Pros: small, laid back Cons: lack of prestige, narrow focus
Searching for an anthro department to study at? Be certain you know what you are getting into. I didn't. My experience was as a graduate student in physical anthropology, so I can't comment on the undergrad experience. I can say that there is very...

Pros: safety, beauty, variety Cons: none
I think the first thing to consider when choosing a campus, aside from academics, is what you like. Do you like ivy covered walls that have been standing strong for 200 years? Or do you prefer ultramodern, wet paint smell and cubism? Do you like statues,...

Pros: on campus. Off campus apts plentiful and not expensive. Cons: dorms mostly old, somewhat noisy, lack of privacy
Unlike most freshmen who walk onto campus for the first time, I had the luxury of choice in my living arrangements. (I should point out that I had worked before coming to college and wasn't 18). I could choose on or off campus, but being somewhat...

Pros: Great weather. Good teachers. Nice town. Cons: Sooo many trains! Inefficiency.
I went to the University of South Carolina for dual master's degrees in social work and public health. I spent three years there and got to know how things run in two different departments, plus I ended up taking a couple of undergrad classes and living...

Pros: Campus, Education Cons: none
Being a prospective college student, I have taken the time to look at many Universities across the country. There aren't many that promise what the University of South Carolina does. If you plan on attending a school for four plus years, you are going...
