Pros: Academics, grad school prep, engineering, faculty who actually teach, ILP system, personal attention, safe campus Cons: Bureaucrats, "Office Space"-like middle management, expensive, some silliness (LBC, preachy student affairs people, etc.)
I graduated from WNEC a couple years back with a dual-degree (B.A.B.S.) in Economics and Mechanical Engineering. As you can imagine, I was a busy student. That probably resulted in me missing out on some of the more social aspects of the school, so ...

Pros: Renowned Economics department, modern facilities, great internship/job opportunities, 3-plus-3 Law program, alumni network, nice area. Cons: Reputation is positive but limited, expensive, tame social scene, city is wanting in some regards.
My Time at Western New England College I attended Western New England College from 2001 to 2005, graduating with honors. In a nutshell, it's "where everyone knows your name". Overview In 1919 Northeastern University founded a division ...

Pros: New buildings, athletic center. Cons: Academic rep.
Western New England has a small college feel to it. The campus is small, it seemed like everyone knew each other. It’s just outside of Springfield, so it’s not too far from a large city.
The interiors of all the buildings are really nice....

Pros: pretty campus, 2and 1/2 hours from NYC Cons: Food is unedible, administration is uncooperative, school's location is awful, althought 2 hours from NYC, there is no way to get there, most students go home on the weekends.
The night before I went off to Western New England College, i took a deep breath and felt eager and nervous about stepping into the new world of college, one that I had always heard was so exciting. My best foot forward, I was ready to leave...

Pros: Small classes, no TAs, idyllic campus, safe, cocurriculars, strong Economics/Business programs, luxurious student amenities. Cons: Springfield is mediocre. Faculty are too involved/passionate for some students' tastes.
Western New England College has always had a special place but with the election of a WNEC Law grad as Massachusetts Lt. Governor in 2006, they are moving up faster than ever. Its a smaller place with a lot to offer. One of the most important ...

Pros: Outstanding undergraduate professors, strong PoliSci faculty, superior job placement services, fun residences, social scene Cons: Might be too small for some, city is underwhelming, limited but growing graduate degree selection
I couldn't have been happier with my time at WNEC. My professors were outstanding (I went out to lunch with one every week to discuss class materials), the students were so supportive, and the campus climate made me at home. I was always an ambitious ...

Pros: Academics, Economics Dept, Accounting Dept, Criminal Justice, Quirky social scene, Safety, Nicest people Cons: Springfield might not be for those who love the Yankees.
Another writer put it best when they described Western New England College as an "enigma". It is really an odd place, as the reviewer suggested. Most of the school just focuses on academics (admirably so) while there is a sizable minority that is ...

A Hidden Gem
by jlee85 ,Mar 12 '07
Pros: small class sizes, great faculty, beautiful campus, lots of ways to get involved Cons: career center
For me Western New England College was a great experience. Coming from the West Coast and not being familiar with the area, I felt right at home at Western New England College and soon was finding ways to get involved with the campus and make new friends. Because it's a private school with a smaller student population, it's alot easier to find leadership positions and really become of part of the life of the campus. The faculty at the College are great also. All of your teachers know your name and they all have plenty of real world experience to relate to the classes they teach. Unfortunately, Western New England College does not have the reputation it deserves, although it is growing.
