Intramural Basketball was a ton of fun. Regular students playing against each other in a grand display of what not to do on a court. The games have referees and 10 player, 5 on each side, but the enforcing of the rules is very lenient. The team I was on was a mix of talent, ranging from beginner to decent players.
I enjoyed the competition. My team didn't do well in the standings, but we had fun and got a ton of exercise. Of course, there were some interesting developments over the season...
First, one of the team members made his own T-shirts, and we became the benefactors of some extremely bright Tie Dyed Shirts. Some of the referees told me that they understood why we won games. We blinded the opponent.
Second, in my infinite wisdom, I was playing the point guard position one game, when I made a steal. Instead of pulling up and shooting a 3-point shot (which was my forte) I opted to try a layup. Unfortunately for me, and to the amusement of everyone else, I waited too long to release the ball, thus the ball hit the bottom of the backboard.
This is just an example of how enjoyable the Intramural Sports at Furman can be. I loved the experience and have fond memories of the entire Intramural program. I would encourage all students to look into the Intramural programs.
