The party never stops...

Written: Jan 25 '00
Pros:great specials, atmosphere, people, and always something to do
Cons:when it gets to be really cold, or when you run out of money

Wow. That pretty much describes the way that you feel at the end of a night out. Coming to college, I expected to have a lot of fun and to party a lot. Yet I never quite comprehended exactly what that meant until my first weekend up here at school. I am in love now... with the school.
Coming home for Thanksgiving break and catching up with all of my high school friends was great, but I almost felt bad for them. As I was, they were also looking forward to great nightlife. Well... I am sorry to say that they didn't really find it. When I told them stories of some of my nights, they almost didn't believe me.
Recently, two of them came up to see if I was stretching the truth. They just couldn't believe that school could be this much fun. Since they came up in J-Term (the month of January where most of the school is off campus participating in internships, study abroad trips, or anything else that they wish )there wasn't as much to do as in the Fall and Spring Semesters, but there was still enough to impress them!
Here, let me describe to you a normal night on the town up here at Hartwick. Okay... the night would start around 8 or 9p.m.(sometimes earlier) when people start the "pre-game" drinking in the dorm rooms. Then around 10/10:30 you usually head down to a Fraternity, Sorority, or house party(there is always more than one going on). At these parties you will find a lot of fun, as well as kegs, buckets of punch, people greeting you at the door with a bowl of jello shots that they give to you as you walk in, beruit games, and flip-cup. There is no charge to get into these parties, and you can always count on them to be a lot of fun. So you stay at the party, or go party-hopping, until around 12/12:30 then the bars become a reality. When you head downtown you have an option of approximately 52 bars that you can choose to go to. Yet, no matter where you go, you will most likely end up at Todays... which could pretty much be named the Official Hartwick Bar. Before you end up there however, you might have gone to The Sip And Sail, The Rail, The Old Spanish Tavern (The O.A.S.T.)or many others. By the time that you get into Todays, you are already a little off your rocker. Once there you will see almost everyone that you know. People are playing foosball, pool, eating free popcorn (which is the best popcorn in the world... yet I am convinced that it is addictive..)and generally having a great time. At 2, when on the weekends the bars close, there is a herd of people leaving todays and walking to Mama Nina's. Now Mama Nina's is an experience in itself. It is a pizza parlor, yet it is not your normal pizza place. During the day it is, but come nighttime, it is almost like a club. This is where the dancing begins... There are two pool-tables that get covered up with plywood when the bar crew heads into Nina's. And they are soon swarmed with people dancing around them. People are dancing everywhere, the music is really loud, and the songs are great. When my friends came up they couldn't believe what was going on, they were shocked. But they too got up on the pool-tables and had a blast along with everyone else. At usually 3/3:30 people start to leave Nina's (although they close at 4) and head to After-hours... where ever that may be. After-hours are held at Fraternity, Sorority and Sport Houses, or just houses where students live. There is usually the same things going on there that went on earlier on in the night. At around 5 people usually head home and go to bed, or they gather in dorm rooms for after-after-hours... which is always a lot of fun!
During the week, it is a lot more tame and no one usually goes to Nina's, but there is still a great time to be had by all, especially with the great drink specials!
I think that anyone could fit in here as long as they want to have fun. But dont get me wrong, everyone still does there work and is under control during the day, we just like to let loose at night!
