A Little Means A LotOct 15 '00 Write an essay on this topic.I work at SIU- Edwardsville,IL as a food supervisor in the food court. Several students work there for extra money and some employees are given the added benefit of getting free classes if they work full time. I feel like a second mom to several of these students. Many live around the campus and rarely get anything sent to them from home. I'm a very soft hearted person so what I do is little things that they really appreciate. I'll bake cupcakes for their birthdays, get a goodie box filled with household products for when they move into their first apartment. Every holiday "my kids" get a little something, maybe only from the $1.00 store but it's the thought that counts. For Halloween which is coming soon I'm making them all treat bags. I feel bad for these kids that don't seem to have any contact with their families. A simple little card saying I'm Thinking of You sends some of them into tears. If you have anyone who's in College or just moved away send them something, anything to let them know you care. When my sister moved out my mom & I used to send her care packages all the time, photos of the family dog, personal care products, a card we even sent back and forth to each other tape recordings of conversations that we would have if we were all together. It was before computers were popular, and cheaper than the long distance bill. My sister and I live 2,000 miles away and to this day we still send each other care packages. With many miles separating us it's nice to get a care package from my sister with a note that says Happy Wednesday! It eases the pain of being separated. |
