IIT What to Expect

Written: Jan 07 '01
Pros:Excellent Technical School
Cons:Bad Neighborhood, expensive school.

I attended IIT for 2 years before transferring to UCLA.

IIT is and excellent school for any student interested in the sciences. Students who would like to go into business or liberal arts related field should go to UIC or Depaul (Business.) IIT is just as the name states, a technology school. Although this schools seems to not be so well know as MIT or CIT, IIT is in the ranks of these. Some call this school the MIT of the midwest. I personally believe that this school is excellent in its technical fields such as engineering and the such.

My major was Molecular Biology, IIT being a technical school, was very informative in this field due to the requirments of technology to study molecular interactions, etc. Nonetheless, IIT is not known for its Biology programs, but rather its TECH offerings.

The major drawback of IIT is that its a private school that costs 18k plus expenses to attend each year. I lived at home and the cost of tuition alone made attending this school very difficult. For this reason I transferred to a world renound school, UCLA, where I could study the field of molecular biology at a much lower tuition, even if I have to move and live in another state.

All in all IIT is a very good educational institution, i recommend this school to anyone that can afford it. As a note, IIT is very good at giving out scholarships, usually about 8k dollars per year, but even though, the tuition would still be high and many would prefer an out of state school. Also, the neighborhood of IIT leaves much to be determined, being on campus, not such a nice campus, one can say that if you look across the street from the school you wouldnt want to be there. The "projects" are very close, even though i think they are closed now, the inhabitants of these "projects" still crawl around the neighborhood and basically prey on anybody that looks good for mugging.

To finish off, the education is excellent, the money is the problem as well as location. The campus leaves much to be desired in looks, but then again its the education ones interested in.
