Look For Rolling Admissions

While applying for early admission often means that you are limited to that school, there are some schools who allow you to apply early without committing. For example, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, IN uses a rolling admissions plan where you usually get a reply within two weeks of applying. In this case, there is an early date in which you must send your deposit in order to hold your spot. And the class is more or less capped at 350 students so the sooner you apply, the better. Don't entirely overlook applying early. Just make sure to double check with your prospective schools to see if any of them offer the chance to apply early without being "stuck" there. Finally, I applied to five different engineering schools, all of which were during normal admissions times, and was accepted to all of them. It just goes to show that just because you don't apply early, you may not be giving up all hope of getting in.
