sending your resume online...what you should know...Jun 15 '00 Write an essay on this topic.I am a resume extractor. My job is to extract the information that companies are looking for on a resume. Resumes can and will get you a job and get you hired by a company. However, it is my opinion that now that we are sending our resumes online that the rules have changed in resume writing and no one really knows the new rules. When you reply to an ad on a monster board by sending your resume do you know what happens to your resume from there? That resume goes to a clearing house and it is processed by the at home extractors. We process literally millions of resumes in a year for the many companies out there that are hiring. There are three main items that the companies see first. They see these three things, if they are complete and to their liking then the rest of the resume is made available to them. If the three main things are not complete then the resume is sometimes returned to the individual or it is overlooked by the company. Things that need to be on your resume 1. personal information which should include: Name address phone number fax number email address homepage if you have one ( if you are sending your resume from a country outside of the US remember to add the country code to your phone number otherwise it is deleted) (Please remember if you are emailing them your resume YOU NEED TO HAVE AN EMAIL ADDRESS listed on the resume) 2. Education Information name of college or university degree obtained ( if you do not list the degree then the company will not see your education) year of graduation major GPA 3. Experience information name of company years worked for them Job title You may be a Doctor of Law or a person with 70 bachelors degrees but if the above information is not on your resume the company will never see it. Also, resumes are going to the clearing house now when you send them by mail. They are being fed into the computer to be extracted by people like me. Understand that if you do not spell check your resume neither will the extractors. We do not correct any spelling or grammatical errors on resumes. As a result some fine people look pretty silly when they spell their own state wrong. Trust me it happens. If you want to get the job then make sure you have the information I just told you about. That is what they are looking at first. If any of that is missing or incorrectly spelled or left out then you may be out of luck. |
