Exceptionally Easy Money!Jun 09 '00 (Updated Jun 20 '00) Write an essay on this topic. The key to having a great work-study experience is in choosing what job you want. A good idea would be to try and get a job as a research assistant for a teacher in your department. This way, the work that you are doing will interest you. Also, pick a supervisor that will be laid back and fun to work with. My first work-study experience was last year, and it turned out to be a wonderful experience. It was mere luck that it happened this way, I really didn't know what I was getting into. Lucky for me, I was in a class with a great teacher who was looking for research assistants. So, after class I went to her office to talk about the job. As soon as the little meeting was over I knew this was the job for me. As well as being a teacher in a field I am majoring in, she told us it would mostly be us sitting in her office studying. What could be better than that? Yes I am telling you what you think I am telling you, they pay college students these days to study. Regardless of how easy your work-study program is, it is best to make sure that it is one you will enjoy. Most supervisors will be quite lenient with what is expected of you because they know your studies are your top priority. The best part is that if you work with one of your teachers you will get to know them well and will be able to learn what is expected of you to improve your grades. Below I have listed a set of pros and cons of performing work-study at your college. PROS * Its on campus, so you don’t have a long drive to work * It gives you the inside scoop on the school * You may end up learning a lot * Too much is not expected of you, and they don’t forget you are a hardworking college student * Working for your school there may be some special perks CONS * It is a minimum wage job * You won’t get the hours you might need * You may end up with a no frills, boring job * You may not want to be spending extra time at school In my opinion, I feel that when considering a job during your college years, a work study program is the best way to go. Part time jobs that are off campus do not cater to the needs of a college students demanding school schedule and will demand more of your time than you are often able to give. These employers need to realize that students are not making a career out of their part time job. I encourage anyone who needs a part time job during college to look into a work-study program instead. It may make your college experience a lot more fun. |
