watch out or this can happen to you.

I learned many great lessons from my first transfer. I transferred out of state, which was my first big mistake. My boyfriend, now husband, was moving to Michigan to start his new job. I thought since I was done for the year with college on my summer vacation I would transfer colleges. It seemed all to perfect.
I talked to my college advisor in New York who reminded me to see what classes transferred. Of course being just a freshman I decided that I didn’t need to do that and I was on my way. When I got to the community college here in Michigan I realized how different each curriculum really is. It all started when I got the required degree list from my college advisor. Some of the classes I took didn’t count towards my degree. I took a psychology class that was the full class but in Michigan it is a two-part class so I had to retake the second part.
To make matters worse I got sick during one of my semester and got a couple low grades. The passing is C and anything below that like a C- you have to retake. So now I am stuck taking extra classes trying to catch up finding out that I am going to have to spend an extra year going to school because of my stupid transfer mistakes.
So now here I am spending money I didn't plan on spending for an extra year of college. Another whole year with no spring or summer vacations.
My advice to anyone who is transferring is to be very careful. Take a look at the school you are going to and the school you are transferring to. Make sure that the curriculum is the same. Meaning the requirements for your field. Also make sure that your classes transfer or you will be in a world of hurt. Not only financially but also in the length of time you have to stay at the school of your choice.
