Financial Hardships of the Typical College Student

For those who are attending college or have already graduated, you know that money is one of the rarist items while in college. Every time you seem to get a dollar or two in your pocket it disappears. For those who will be attending college in the near future will soon discover that no savings regardless of the size will survive. Those who are able to retain their summer money will soon discover that they are more ample to spend larger amounts of money more quickly, and usually on their friends more than anything else.
Nevertheless, I have come to several conclusions that may help the wearisome college student save a few extra dollars during the year. (1) Don't offer to spend money on friends that may be lacking money. The first few times they might in fact not have sufficient funds for a pizza or whatever, but don't let them make a habit of utilizing your cash flow for their purposes. (2) Prevent making long distance calls as much as possible, especially first semester freshman. First semester freshman fall into the quick trap of calling all of their high school friends and gossiping for hours about their first days/weeks/months of college not realizing how much money they are spending because they have been so accustomed to having their parents pay the phone bill. Try to use the US Postal Service or the internet if you want to contact your friends. AOL Instant Messenger doesn't cost a thing and you can talk to numerous friends all at once. (3) One of the most important steps is to stay clear of credit cards!!! This cannot be stressed enough. You cannot pay the bill next month!! If you don't have the money now you won't have it down the road either. I have known students who have acquired over 13 credit cards during their college career and most of those were maxed out. If possible attain a debit card from your bank. Your limit is then set by the amount of money that you have in the account at that given time. You don't have to worry about monthly bills or interest.
If you attempt to follow these three somewhat easy steps you might discover that you are able to save 50 or 100 dollars a month. Wealth may not come to you while you are in college, and you should attempt to budget as much as possible. The worst thing about college is that you acquire new bills that your parents once took care of for you. However, you have a very limited income at school and it is difficult to retain extra cash. Following the three suggestions made above may help though. It may not work for everyone. Some people have the mentality of swipe now pay later, but those are also the ones who are 3,000 dollars in debt with their credit card companies.
