There's More to College Than Partying

College life has been depicted as a never-ending partying in which everyone is getting drunk and/or hooking up. Unfortunately, numerous incoming freshman soon fall into this mindset and find themselves on academic probation or kicked out of school be the end of their first semester. It seems that many believe that they can get through college following the same study habits that they utilized throughout high school. But what were those study habits? Did they even exist?

You have to realize that college is not high school in any shape or form. You can't brush off studying like you once attempted in high school. If you think that you can party all the time without studying you will soon find yourself lagging far behind in your classes without the possibility of catching up. Believe me, this is not the path that you want to fall into, especially when you parents are paying a great deal of cash for you to attend an establishment of higher education.

For those who will be attending college in the near future, time management will either make or break you. You must learn how to use your time efficiently. It is recommended that for every hour you spend in class you should spend at least three times that studying. If you calculate that for your average class load you may be spending 9 hours in class and 27 hours studying!! This does not mean that you should put off all of your work till the night before it is due. If you do a little every day you won't be completely bogged down by school work and you'll be able to escape to a party or two on the weekends.

Nevertheless, the reality of college is a cold one. Those who think that they can breeze through college partying for 4 years will find themselves either (1) kicked out after at most one year (2) graduating with a lower than expected GPA (3) facing aggravated parents who spent a fortune to send you to college (4) stuck with a meaningless piece of paper and no post-graduate job. In order to survive college, you must find the happy medium between studying and partying. Too much studying is never a bad thing. Too much partying may have numerous negative effects that you may not want to toy with.
