How much is enoughJan 27 '00 Write an essay on this topic. How much money should you give your student if any while he is away at college? This is a difficult question to answer because it is dependent on many factors. First of all, it depends on how much you can afford. If you aren't able to afford to send your student much money, then it may be necessary for him to get a job on campus (or close by) to have spending money. This may be a difficult decision because you may want your student to be able to concentrate his energy on his studies but this may not be possible financially. As expensive as college is, you may not be able to afford to send more money each month. Second, it depends on what the student will need to buy with the money Will he have to purchase all the food for meals or will it be strictly for recreation?. Will he have to use it to purchase supplies throughout the semester such as lab supplies or laundry detergent or even the quarters for the washing machines? Third, it depends on whether you student will be able to get a job or if you want him to or not. Working and being a full time college student is possible. Many students do it. If actually often helps to budget time better because since there is definitely less time to spend on studies, it is easier to get it done. (This may sound counter positional, but it is true--take it from one who did it). Again, the actual amount you may choose to send your student, if any, is a very hard decision. Your student may complain that he never has any money, but is this totally bad? Is it his fault that he spent it all on something frivoulous and now it is gone? Hopefully, he has been taught how to budget money by the time he goes to college and this won't happen, but we all know it will. You have to make the decision that is best for everyone. |
