Engineering is Tops

Written: Apr 09 '00
Pros:Excellent School, cheap price, Fantastic college experience.
Cons:Champaign, IL not the most interesting of towns

What more is there to say than "Top three engineering educations in the country at one third the price of the top two." Whether you're a farm boy from Oklahoma or a fancy-boy from New York, the University of Illinois in Champaign will give you one of the best engineering educations in the nation at a reasonable - even downright cheap price. Plus, the overall college experience is better than anything one could get at the other top engineering schools.
Most people don't realize that the University of Illinois is one of the best engineering schools in the country - but look it up and you'll find that the college of engineering is consistently ranked in the top three undergraduate engineering schools in the country. The school is absolutely overflowing with monetary resources from the State of Illinois and private donors. The facilities are top-rate and the resources are unbeatable. Visit the school's website (www.uiuc.edu) and you'll be able to see the facilities and read the facts about the school.
The greatest part about U of I is the fantastic college experience one will encounter on campus. What one will not find at Stanford, MIT, or CalTech is the combination of fantastic sports games with loyal fans, 800+ registered student organizations, on-campus bars (age 19 to enter), super-friendly fun-loving student body, largest greek system in the country, big-time band concerts on campus (Dave Matthews Band, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters, 311, Aerosmith to name a few from this year), etc. Really there is no better place to spend your college years. I urge you to visit the other schools mentioned as well as Illinois and you will see a huge difference in attitudes and you will enjoy yourself much more at U of I.
You will not find a better engineering school than U of I for the money. Is the name of Stanford or MIT really worth $20,000? I sure don't think so.
