HomeEducationColleges and UniversitiesWhat Should I Know About Homeschooling?

75% good, 25% bad...

From what I see, most of the stuff on homeschooling is pro, but the cons... Wow, what ignorant mutants have you been using as your tests? I can't believe the ignorance...
You talk about homeschoolers being behind the curve but what about you? Teachers, of all people, should be open to homeschooling.
Since when does someone who tries to educate for a living so ignorant about a subject they're trying to teach others on? By writing your opinion on homeschoolers, you're teaching. And I'm terribly offended by what you said. Maybe there are a few kids out there who are being held back by homeschooling, but how do you know they wouldn't be like that in school also?
I am a homeschooled child and I'm not bragging but I sure am not "behind the curve". I may not get up at 7:45am each day to go spend 8 hours doing 3 hours worth of work but I know I know what I know. I'm 15. I know how to speak English correctly. I know how to read, write and I comprehend what I hear and read. I'm not "socially inept" or "introverted" nor am I "emotionally unstable or venerable".
Just because I don't go to school all day and hang out with people who are going to pressure me into doing things I don't want to doesn't make me an odd person.
Since when does not being part of the crowd make you weird? I thought that doing what worked for you was what you were supposed to do. I have been homeschooled my entire life and I don't feel like I've missed a thing. Maybe I won't get a junior/senior prom but oh well, I won't be the one in the back-seat of a car. Maybe I won't be a cheerleader for my high school football team but I won't be the bulimic girl in the bathroom after the game. I have a life, I have friends and I have an education. A good education.
I am very put off by some of these opinions... Yes, they are opinions but they make homeschoolers out to be socially dwarfed and ignorant. I'm not trying to be Laura Wilder of "Little House on the Prairie". I'm trying to be a successful teenager, doing what works for her. I think I manage my time more efficiently than most adults do. It takes me 3 hours to do 8 subjects, daily... Wow, it takes most schools 8 hours to do 7 subjects.
I get personal, one on one attention from my teacher, someone who really cares, someone who knows me; my Mom. How many public schoolers can say that? I'd like people to consider the bright homeschoolers before the bad mouth all of us because of one or two badly taught kids.
