Take Advantage of your Workstudy!Jan 28 '00 Write an essay on this topic.I have been on workstudy since I entered college. In my experience, this makes you so much more lovable to the different departments that are hiring. The reason is that whoever hires you only pays for half of your salary, while the other half is paid by the government. At UCSC you can get positions ranging from working at on campus coffee shops to being office workers or working in a lab. I have been working as an Instructional Computing Lab Consultant ever since I got here. These positions are available for workstudy and non-workstudy alike, though. The best thing about being on workstudy is that you stay on campus. I can not stress that enough. Having to get off campus to get to work can be a real hassle - especially as a full time student. It is also really nice to have a job on campus because in most cases, your schedule coincides with the school's calendar year so you can take off during breaks and even get a brand new schedule every quarter to suit your academic schedule with little to no problem. Take advantage of the opportunity. Even if you have no workstudy, check out the listings for on campus jobs at your career center (if available).  |
