If you choose to drink - some rules to live by

College and drinking - they seem to inevitably go together. Granted, there are some students who go through college without drinking at all. And that would probably be the best way to do it. But most students are going to drink while in college. Thats ALL some students seem to do in college. So for those of you who choose to drink, think about following some of these rules:
1) Don't drink and drive.
I know, I know, you've heard it a thousand times. But it is important enough to repeat a thousand more. To make sure you never get behind the wheel when you've had a few too many requires planning. If you know you want to drink, have a party at your house. Its cheaper than buying drinks in a bar anyway.
Have a designated driver. When I was in college there were 3 or 4 of us who hung out together frequently. We took turns being the designated driver. Besides, if your broke you can usually get free soft drinks at most bars if you tell the bartender you are a designated driver. Just don't call yourself a DD. I did that once and the bartender gave me a through once-over and said, "Really, I would have thought a C myself."
2)Don't play drinking games. This is how people get alcohol poisoning. Or they get stupid drunk and do dangerous things. No one wins a drinking game.
3) Never drink alone. In other words, drink socially, not habitually.
4) Never drink when you've "had a hard day." Don't use alcohol to improve your mood.
5) Set a personal limit and stick to it.
I know my rules are not for everyone. But they kept me out of trouble and they may do the same for you. The important thing is, if you choose to drink, do so responsibly. If you don't like my rules, at least make some of your own.
